Whee! Almost there. All blocks are made and sashing is on two sides. All setting triangles and the corners are made, waiting for layout to pre-apply the sashing to them.

So today I'm balancing out the blocks and determining final layout. I'm committed to a border design but still have a lot of seams to go.

Pretty much everything had been combined before getting to me. It turned out that the problem was in the step with the red/blue HST, 41 units were made instead of 41 sets of units. So I had to make a few more HST, turn them into pinwheels, and then those darn 3-colored goose units for all of them. Everything else was pretty much done and the extra fabric for the project provided. Since I had to make some triangles, I did "mimic" some of the extra prints and slipped in just a couple reds. I also cut all the sashing cornerstones from the same fabric which again, fit in with the other fabrics.

As I was familiarizing myself with the project and since I knew what was ahead and that we had extra units and that I would have to keep careful track of the various pairs, I decided to limit the neutral fabrics to all 8 being the same in each block. Additionally, the Geese units made with the Parakeet fabric had all been made with the same fabric -- and I had enough of the same fabric for the sashing. I was also able to pick out a matching set of (4) 4-patches, where the red/blue fabrics did not match any of the star fabrics.

I will be emphasizing the white/neutral in my border treatment, and I will be piecing various lengths of the various white/neutral for the inner border, and while I won't have to finish it myself, think that is the right choice for the binding too.

I finished the top way back in March and then set it aside, pulled it out over the long weekend and put the borders on, hopefully I will get it on the longarm next week. I enjoyed the mystery and I love the quilt, but one and done is good for me! I am saving the clues for Grassy Creek and will make it at some point, but I prefer to piece certain ways so I will watch everyones progress. I plan on starting Unity as I love Medallion quilts so thats my winter project.

Frolic was last year's mystery, you have to buy that pattern now (you can find it on Bonnie's site, maybe under 'Shop' on the page menu, I've never bought a pattern from her so not positive where she keeps them).

Here's a link to the new one (Grassy Creek) it's free until a little while after the reveal, half way down the page are links to Part 1 and 2.
