My quilting 'student' led me astray. I'm teaching a college friend to quilt, she came over last Sunday and asked if I had seen the CT sale fabric, because she wanted my opinion on some of the prints. So we took a break from sewing... $75 got you free 2 day shipping and between the 2 of us, that was not a stretch. Ordered Sunday got the order Tuesday! However, I did mail all my JoAnn coupons to my niece. I really hope I'm done for this year, but now I'm getting after Christmas sale emails from all the LQS's in the area and one has 40% off everything!
...
2014 Moratorium will start sometime the first week of Jan, this thread will be closed after a link to the new one is posted!

those fabric sale emails kill me. I want sooo bad to open them. then its a no no not doing it and I delete them. phew. getting in gear promise I am.. almost ready.. just need that extra black and tone on tone white then swear I am ready lol.. just a tiny bit? like 8 yrds or so.. not much at all not like I need a bolt.. maybe just one bolt not two.. no no ok fine.. sigh not shopping. now how to make skunks go with chickens and modern brown green fabrics oh yeah this is going to be great.. or one year of boon dog ugly quilts not sure which ..

I have deleted most of the sales e-mails and totally eliminated them, as in un subscribed. Then i only look at them if someone strongly recommends them. Cuts down my emails t o less than 100 a day. Most of those i dump right away, too.
i try to stay out of Joann's but that's my " needles, thread, felt, etc" store. W/m is just too chaotic! And when I'm in ja's i get waaaaay too many ideas! My entire inheritance is in fabric in my front room. Yikes!

I'm going to venture into the fabric store this week to find a medallion center for the quilt Elisabrat is hosting. I'm sure there are enough batiks in my stash to make the border rounds. I'll let you know how successful I am in avoiding any other purchase. I know this is the week the store moves a lot to fabric to the clearance room where $6 a yard is the highest price, but I will be strong!!! I was going to say "try to be", but that sounds like I'm planning a fall. Not!!

Elisabrat, you don't really need to stock up. My understanding is that we are 'allowed' to purchase blenders and backing as NEEDED - it's stash building we are trying to avoid.

paperprincess, when are you posting the 2014 moritorium? Thank you for doing this. It really has helped keep me aware of what I'm doing. I did buy batiks in Dec for my daughter for Christmas - then she didn't care for them, but I can use them in my medallion quilt so they won't really get stashed. Rationization??? Maybe. :D

I checked with the moderators earlier this month, and they would like me wait till the first week of January. They have to do something special with the post to close the old one and set the new one up in the challenge section and by waiting a week, they would not have to work over the holiday. So it will be the week of Jan 6th. I'll have a link to the 2014 post in this one before it's locked.
..
I'm staying out of the fabric stores, even with their end of year sales! We are going to check on the cottage. It's about 40 miles north of us and has been without power since Sunday. We were planning on going earlier but we had a burst pipe here at the house and we didn't loose power. I'm praying everything's OK out there. There's still no estimate on power being restored.

Will be looking for the new thread.

well waiting patiently and just read that first page duh way to go Brat. you need to read the rules. phew I can buy backing and border/sashing. that will help because I have so many pretty prints but just a handful of blenders to work with them. I really want to hit some of my stash. I wonder this is a dumb question but if we like.. traded some of our fabrics if someone needs something for a quilt they are working on and they were up for a trade does that count as adding to your stash? your getting rid of some at the same time without shopping.. (ok that part of me that says just a little shopping is coming up with this big idea). like I need white blender bright white fabric. I can buy some but its adding to what I have here. not the goal. I am happy to part with something in exchange. something like that... just saying.. lol ok fine fine fine.. I can use my solid white (cringe) lol..

DustysMomma 12-29-2013 06:34 AM

Brat, trading doesn't count as adding because you're not getting more stash. I'm still trying to sort out my box from the stash trade swap & get it put away. I'm so funny about keeping things together that I obtain together. That's one of my little OCD things. They don't have to match or be related for me to want to keep them together. I'm just weird like that. My little dresser is overloaded though. I think I need a new system. I started out with things I bought & were keeping together as projects in the bottom drawer, heavy fabrics in the drawer above that, kids/fun fabrics above that, theme fabrics (travel, cooking, etc) in the drawer above that, anything else in the drawer above that, then solids in the top drawer. A couple of the drawers are screaming for help though, because they're overloaded. The box on top of the drawers is still full. The overflow is still in a pile next to it.

So here I am with 2 stacked Rubbermaid 3-drawer dressers, and in need of a new stashing or sorting system. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Elisabrat 12-29-2013 06:47 AM

I have not much of a system. three drawer rubber made with f4's by color only. and a box of them (boot box with hinged type lid) that is full of my browns and rust f4's overflow from the three drawer. YIPES. a huge stack about 15 inches high of each color less than f'4 looks like a darn rainbow up there.. and then the forty yards of fabric I must own. way too much for one person. not really lol saw the sale on equilter.. all their clearance fabrics omg tons of 4.50 and less yardage to pick from. heck.. the blenders alone say buy me buy me.. but .. I didn't. not one. ok quilty bookmarked three of them.. one for a quilt back if that counts for much. at 3.85 or about a yard its perfect for a quilt that I have going around.. now do I buy it.. or do I run??? you see if you buy one.. then that other one says over here over here.. and ..ah heck.. where do I put it all?

Quilter7x 12-29-2013 07:29 AM

This sounds like a lot of fun! Guess I better go shopping now at Connecting Threads while they have their batiks at 50% off, before the new year starts! I have plenty of a fabric stash, but very little batiks, so this will be a good thing.

For those who don't know Nancia, she is hysterical! :D

Happy New Year everyone!
