I have posted many here on the Board over the past year, but most are on my Flickr site www.flickr.com/photos/vanuatu_jill or on Facebook under Bag-Sationals. Pm me if you want any more info.

First month is almost over! I did purchase some white-on-white for a specific quilt, and I admit I bought a bit more than needed, but you can always use white, right? I was pretty successful in organizing my stash. I used the ruler fold method. Now I know what I have and can actually find it. My goal for February, along with no fabric purchases, is to organize and purge my quilting books and patterns. Now that I know what fabric I have available, I can look for patterns that will utilize it.
How did everyone do? Should your update post be titled "I stuck to my diet!" or "True Confessions"?
Do you have any specific de-stashing plans for February?

My fabric diet during January amounted to what came in went right back out. Had to buy some flannel to enlarge quilts I made my grandsons several years ago (Grammy....my feet hang out the end and get cold!!!) but also used up all the leftovers that I had on hand from the original construction of those quilts. So that was a net loss. Oh, well, then again, ......there was the fabric I bought to make a quilt I saw in a magazine......but I didn't put it in the stash - instead it's half cut already. But I know, I should have worked on "kits" I already have put together from the stash. Well, its a process, right?

Well, I have no intentions of going out today so this is appropriate for the first monthly report.

I have been working on clearing out numerous household items from our basement and workshop. These items were reviewed last weekend and we have received/accepted a fair offer. The bonus is that our storage area is much more in order and the final pushes will show more positive results.

No miscellaneous fabric purchases were made during the month. I did need flannel for burp cloths, purchased it and made up several items. The remaining cloth has been cut and will be assembled in sets of two for chain piecing. These are priority items for gifts and charity donations. These kits will be finished before I start another project.

White Kona has been ordered for background to complete another quilt design. This is strictly basic stock.

Scraps are being used for scrappy sample blocks and a lap quilt. Sample blocks will be displayed next Monday at guild. Small groups are to be working on quilt block rows for quilts to be shared in our community.

Today, I ordered superwash wool sock yarn for myself. I have made two pairs dress socks for DH and one pair of casual socks for myself this month. My closet and dresser drawers have been cleaned, with several items purged.

DH has been reminding me that the local quilt shop is having a Super Bowl Sale today, tomorrow and Saturday. The tip of the subject is that he gave me fifty dollars this afternoon and told me that I was to use this at the shop tomorrow! (He doesn't know about this 2013 fabric moratorium.) This is pulling me from side to side. We should all have "decisions" about generousity....

It is definitely time for me to leave the board and sew! Blessings to all...

I spent sometime organizing my fabric and it was almost as much fun as shopping. One month down and I'm doing great!

Hey Kay Carlson - maybe there's a sale on thread or notions???? I would hate to have to return a gift like that from my DH. Maybe even a pattern or two to help use up your stash!

I can't believe that I hadn't even considered that! Dah..... Thanks, paulswalia. :-)

After much searching through my stash and head-scratching, still couldn't come up with a suitable backing for my DIL's string quilt. Went to Textile Traders Midland (is that ever a trap for those on a fabric moratorium!). Purchased just enough pale blue gingham for the back and a metre and a half of plain white. I bought some Procion Dye at an art supply store that morning....so I needed the white for my first foray into dyeing since the age of 15. Steered myself away from all the bargain/sale tables and resisted all entreaties from the staff to look at all the exciting new stuff going on (whizz bang machines and lots of fabric). Don't plan on going to that part of town for a couple of months, so hopefully I'll stay on the straight and narrow.

One month down, ten to go, though I would like to go to the end of the year, not Nov 1. I purchased only enough for the back for a baby quilt and mailed it out, so nothing went in stash. I've completed a stash buster quilt, but, somehow, it didn't make a dent.

I was really good and did not order (much as I wanted to) from the Connecting threads Red collection. I did find some green fabrics on sale so bought 2 yards of each of 3 green colors but this is for my '3 okay to buy for' quilts for this year. This one will be for the quilt our guild members will do at our retreat in Sept. I did but some turkey red and dark blue for border fabric for my Americana quilt. I had neither of those colors in my stash. But I am using some orphan blocks in the backing for it so feel good about that. I look at all the sales and then discard the catalog or email. One month down!
