I have been good this month and only purchased a couple items to finish two UFO. However, next week is the Ohio One Stop Shop Hop so no promises! LOL I will try to be strong!

SandyinZ4 04-19-2014 03:47 PM

Missgiggle...I don't consider fabric purchases for something you plan to use soon...falling off the wagon. So as far as I am concerned you did well. Do we get a picture of fabric or if not..how about one of completed items...pretty please?
KrisB... I say the same goes for you ..if it is for the current BOM...you aren't guilty at all. Once again...do we get a pic of fabric?
Everyone else is doing so well...Emma..only 10 more days in April. Looks like you are going to be successful. :-) I finished my cat quilt binding yesterday with two weeks to spare so feel like I can jump into conversations a bit more now!

coopah 04-20-2014 02:22 PM

I think we're all doing really well here. Trouble is, now I need a place that puts the brakes on spending my fabric money in other areas! HA! But it's nice to use the stash. Today I cut fabric that had 2007 printed on the selvedge, and it's some of my newer fabric. AI YAI YAI!

nancia 04-21-2014 08:29 AM

in early to mid April I bought the end of a bolt of kona type fabric for $2,75/yd. I have since been told by my shopping companion that I was doing horribly on the fabric moratorium because I bought 4 yds of fabric fofr her, and 2 baggies of blk and white fabric scraps for me. I feel differently, obviously, but chose not to argue. so.... if anyone feels I need absolution for my spendthrift ways, I will gladly accept all the pardoning you wish to dole out. but frankly, scarlet...... lol

MadQuilter 04-21-2014 10:45 AM

I got 3 panels in for Round Robins and I have all the fabric colors to work on them in my stash. WHOOHOO!

Emma S 04-22-2014 06:30 AM

Nancia: Your Queen of justification, even though your position is well stated, I'd rather hear the well reasoned case for the purchase.

me too! Whoohoo!

Rhonda Lee 04-24-2014 09:00 AM

Well, ahhh, hmmmm, this month is about done isn't it. Good. I'm looking forward to the end of May and saying that I didn't buy any fabric. That's my story and I'm not saying more.....for a while.

Emma S 04-24-2014 09:02 AM

Oh Rhonda, me too. Lets take a vow of silence. Move on to May, nothing to see here folks.

MadQuilter 04-24-2014 12:32 PM

DH brings the mail in every day and when there is a catalog for me he always teases me with it. This time I was strong: JoAnn flyer - recycle! Nancy's Notions - recycle! Keepsake Quilting - recycle! Of course now I feel like I am being deprived.

Rhonda Lee 04-24-2014 01:00 PM

I hear you MadQuilter!. I've been deleting emails before opening them, from the likes of CT, NN, KQ, etc. Not much fun I'd say.

And Emma my dear, I really like you. You say such consoling things to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

bezzie2013 04-24-2014 01:36 PM

Oh fabric gods please forgive me i have been very bad and really fallen off the wagon I went to the Paducah Quilt Show and bought over 40 yards of fabric I know i said i want going to buy any this year but i just didnt have the will power to not buy any I am so sorry wait who am i kidding i loved buying it there was so much i was just glad i ran out of money or i would still be there buying more of the pretty fabric

Emma S 04-24-2014 04:51 PM

Bezzie: If you show me yours I'll show you mine. Then, I bet, Rhonda has some show and tell too. Everybody was being so good the pressure was really building, whew, glad that's over.

coopah 04-25-2014 04:34 AM

Paducah? Who could NOT buy fabric there? I've never been, but it sounds like the Mecca of all quilt shows. So enjoy your new purchases and remember what a great time you had!

SandyinZ4 04-25-2014 07:40 PM

I think it is good if one or two of us fall off the wagon once in a while. This would be a boring thread otherwise. But...I want to see pics of what you all bought! Please!!!

nancia 04-26-2014 12:25 AM

l don't think I fell off the wagon so much, it's more like I was riding the wheel, and all that going round and round made me dizzy so I needed a nice solid fabric to rest my spinning eyes, and there was this gorgeous blue just screaming it needed a home and chose mine. I am so lucky to have been chosen! good news! I have all the fabric I need in my stash to finish the quilt. I will post pictures later! meanwhile, I have nearly finished the baby quilt for my ddgd who will arrive on may 5th. HOORAY~ oops, hoo ray, don't wake her~ and the daing purple pansy charms jump ed out at me and screamed at me to make them into a quilt for my someday to-be dgd so to restore peace, I am.

earthwalker 04-26-2014 01:22 AM

Well had a little slip up, but what can you do when you go to a Church Opportunity shop and find someone has donated a quilter's stash and cottons....couldn't leave them languishing and most were vintage, and good quality and American and...and...can't think of any more excuses. Got quite a lot of metreage for just a few dollars.

Emma S 04-26-2014 06:40 AM

Seems like a real cloud of dust was kicked up when we all fell off the wagon. Well, like Rhonda, I was going to just mention it in passing (for the sake of shamefaced honesty) and move on to May. Since Sandy wants all the gory details plus pictures how can I resist? As I've freely admitted in the past, sales are my huge downfall. Fabric.Com has been a long time favorite of mine but just recently their "sales" have been almost $7 a yard, not so tempting. Just recently they were having a sale on their clearance section, some $3.80 and $4.60 name brands. Some likely choices but I was still standing tall and sticking with our Moratorium, although I did put a few things in my cart. Just for fun. Then they started flashing the very same fabrics in ads along the border of the Boards website. Then, and this was the clincher, they offered another 20% off. Meaning $3.04 and $3.68 per yard, practically garage sale prices. Well I was lost, no hope, let go of that wagon and plop I'm in the dust. Will show pictures when I receive it, mostly blenders but still pretty colors. Wish I could say that I was really whole heartedly back on the wagon but garage sales are gearing up and Joann's has a weeklong 50% of sale. It's not looking good for me.

SandyinZ4 04-26-2014 08:01 PM

Dear Emma, Earthwalker and Nancia,...Like I said, this would be a boring thread if we all stuck to our guns. Finding peace, getting good quality fabric and then finding sales..what can I say. You all did Good! Dust yourselves off and climb back on.

Rhonda Lee 04-27-2014 04:27 PM

Sew, are we all ready to do as SanyinZ4 says, and with a good dusting off and a bunch of low cost, garage sale, special deal, comfy fabric to sit on, climb back on that wagon and just sew to our hearts content and thumb our noses at the fabric we did not buy? Maybe...just maybe. Another month is only days away. Cheers to us all I say. At least we are trying our darnedest and are mindful of spending outside our stash. I know I've come a long way baby. "OK move over just a bit and I'll try this wagon again. Thanks, and that is absolutely the prettiest fabric I have ever seen, where did you get it, do they have more?"

MadQuilter 04-30-2014 11:56 AM

Went to the LQS for their open house last night and put my blinders on while walking through the store. Not a single scrap of fabric went home with me. I did sign up for 2 classes and did buy a stencil and 2 skeins of pearl cotton.

irishrose 04-30-2014 01:56 PM

I just went to my LQS and bought only the light bulb I was after. Last week when I needed embroidery floss, I only bought 1/2 yard of a fuchsia Shadowplay I need for my bed quilt. I used the one I had in the quilt for the church and had to replace it. Whoops, forgot the yard of tie dyed batik for my daughter's quilt. Still, not a bad amount but it takes me off the April no purchase list. Such is life.

PaperPrincess 04-30-2014 02:22 PM

Dang! I blew it on the last day of the month. I had given my cousin 4 yards from an 8 yard cut, so I thought I was doing well. Today we ordered a bit of a coordinating print from the same line. She needed it to make her quilt, & asked me if I wanted a couple yards too, and I caved. The bad part is that I had no specific plan for the original 4 yards, and now I have 2 additional yards to keep it company. But it's really pretty. I don't suppose that I can rationalize it by saying I gave her 4 yards, added 2 so I'm ahead 2 yards for the month? Also, we ordered it online so it won't get here until next month... Sigh.

tlambing 05-02-2014 08:01 AM

I made it through the month without buying any fabric :) I did however buy the new EQ7 for my mac!!!!!

Anoka Quilter 05-02-2014 07:48 PM

I did good in April and did not make any fabric purchase. However, I need to buy fabric in May, but it is backing fabric so I will be I the guidelines of the Moratorium.

coopah 05-03-2014 02:58 AM

Well, I'm joining Fabriholics Anonymous. I bought placemat fabric (to make gifts, you know) and some was on sale, and some not. Then I thought taking a sweatshirt jacket class with my guild would be fun, so I had to get fabric for that, ya know. And while I was buying that fabric, I saw a lovely tote bag and that class was offered, so that turned out to be another opportunity to stay in the fabriholic state. My credit card started smoking, so that's it for quite awhile. Why can I not resist buying? There's a lot of fabric waiting to be stitched here, and now I have more. ACK!

Emma S 05-03-2014 05:55 AM

Coopah: You will find many sympathetic ears here. We have had some quilters that have not bought fabric for over a year. People to be very much admired, but secretly I think some of us think they are the ones that need help. I am at the point that if I just cut back and at least consider before I buy I count it as a win. Just recently fell of the wagon big time but was welcomed back on the wagon. We freely give dispensation for lapses, welcome aboard!

Sophie2 05-03-2014 09:30 AM

I did real good in April until last weekend. Then I went to a One Stop Shop Hop. Have been away from my machines for over three weeks. Since I can't sew, I bought more fabric to stitch once I get home. I think May will be better - at least I hope so. Like Emma said, I do think about my purchases more than I have in the past. Just love all that beautiful fabric - hard to resist! :)

Rhonda Lee 05-03-2014 04:40 PM

Look how good you all are doing! And those of us who have slipped a bit, well, we are very mindful about what we are spending, which is a huge improvement for me. I feel all in all we deserve a "well done for April!"

PaperPrincess 05-04-2014 12:26 PM

My cousins came over yesterday. One has a son getting married in the fall, so we were doing Paper Princess wedding stuff. While we were occupied, her sister shopped my stash & and went home with about 15 yards. (She gave me 9 yards, but I guess I'm still ahead).

laynak 05-05-2014 06:32 AM

I did go shopping yesterday but it's for a special request baby quilt a friend asked me to make for her (she's paying me back). So....I don't think it counts, right?
It's gorgeous: purple background with all kinds of very cute owls in pretty colors along with coordinating fabrics. It'll get a minky backing when it's ready for that. As soon as I saw it, I knew that was the perfect fabric for the baby quilt!

MadQuilter 05-08-2014 11:58 PM

Went to a convention in New Orleans and didn't even look for an LQS. I did find 2 thimbles for my collection but that was it!

Emma S 05-09-2014 05:05 AM

Layna: Sounds so cute! I'm so tempted to make baby things for grand children that haven't even materialized yet. Martina: Are sure you're Okay, oh I mean good for you!

Doing what: Supporting your sis and supporting the sale? hehehehe

oksewglad 05-14-2014 05:49 PM

No comment here in regards to fabric buying, but.... I did sew a Warm Wishes top from my stash and am making a scrappy postage stamp and using focus fabrics from the stash, too.
