So I rooted around in my template drawer and found a pair of 6" orange peel templates for making a 12" block; it won't quite be a cathedral block, but it will be similar enough.

For the first time in my quilting life I am invoking the galloping horse rule (if you can't notice it while riding by on a galloping horse . . . )
This block is such a mess (creases, waves and bubbles everywhere -- which don't really show in the photo), and I don't really understand why, as I was careful about matching my edges and keeping my curved seam consistent. |
Oh dear, joe'smom! This will definitely be a challenge for me then!
It looks nice in the picture though...as I gallop by... |
Joe’s mom and DJ, thanks for thinking of me.
Yes, starting in January, I did start downloading the instructions. I was afraid that they would be taken down. I have to admit, the last curved block is a little scary. Even looking at it concerns me…. But good for you, Joe’s mom! |
I like sewing curves, so this one looks fun. Whew, what a lot of pages of directions! I like the Drunkard's Path way because I think that will give me some more choices for the fabrics. I'm glad she gave a template for it.
|
Joe's mom, Rather than gallop by, I just take off my reading glasses to inspect details. It works well every time to display a masterpiece! Your pattern and colors are attractive to me.
|
grandma's girl, I have been printing the patterns and saving digital copies. I have seen so many nice combinations of material and pattern you girls are making that I will probably want to make some combination of the BOM blocks in a whole different combination. Using prints specific to each season has been been hard for some of the patterns! I am back in the saddle sewing again this week.
|
Good to hear that, Duckling! I see your point about using prints specific to the season being challenging.

I am catching up …. Here is May Chappell’s Butter Churn Block.
|
Joe’s Mom …... I am miserable with curves ….. but if we are riding galloping horses ….. I’ll give it a go.

Blueridgebeverly ~ Very pretty block!
I finished my September block the other day but haven't had a chance to take a picture of it. I found it very hard to get it matched up for the final piecing. You'll want to gallop by mine, too (or take of your glasses as Duckling suggested)! I wonder if this dental floos method would have worked better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBbkoYOEecI&t=3s |
I love your teal and orange block, Blueridgebeverly!
DJ, thanks for that link -- interesting! |
BlueridgeBeverly, that is a beautiful block!

I haven’t completed the cathedral block yet. I thought I had printed it last month, but can’t find it. I don’t want to pay $6 for it ….. so I will look around for an alternative. In the meantime, I did go ahead and do October’s block … Courthouse Steps. This kind of block reminds me to work on my 1/4” seam.
|
I love your fabric choices, Blueridgebeverly!
I have decided to concentrate on finishing my Harriet's Journey, so am neglecting the Quilting Life and Old School BOMs for the time being -- but will continue printing out the remaining patterns and plan to finish them at some point. |
I love Courthouse steps. I'm looking forward to continuing this project after a few other pressing things in my life get done.
|
Beverly, here is the Cathedral Block pattern. I keep each month directions for future reference - although circular patterns like this arent my cup of tea. Oops, file is too big.

Thanks for trying, Duckling! I’m awful with curves, so I’m not having too many regrets about missing that particular block.
I just finished the November block from the-littlest-thistle. So cute! |
BRBeverly, Thanks for sharing your Nov block. Your fabrics are soo cute! It's going to be a really nice quilt. Just one more month to go! I've been very sick, so haven't done any sewing for some months.

Sending good wishes your way, too, givio. I hope you can get back to sewing soon!
Blueridgebeverly, that's a beautiful block! As for me, I'm putting together my Harriet's Journey and decided to put all else aside until that is done. I do like this BOM, though, and plan to finish it sometime. |
Thank you for your kind thoughts, girls! I came looking for the Dec block, but no pictures of it yet. :-)
|
I'm glad you posted, givio. I'd forgotten to look up the last block. Merry Christmas everyone!
|
Well, now that I might be close to being ready to pick up where I left off, I am having trouble finding the BOMs for October and November. Can anyone help? I'm scrolling through the links provided but am not being successful, yet.
|
Ok ... I found November's block here:

DJ, It must need the actual attachment to include actual links. Here it is. Hope this helps you in finishing the quilt!

Greetings!
I'm bumping this thread. Has anyone finished this quilt? I'm hoping to get mine finished this week. I did the quilting on my embroidery machine with a QAYG technique ("One to Three"). I have a little hand stitching to do to on the last joined row. Then I will use a DM decorative stitch down the center of the sashings, then bind! So close to the finish line on this one. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. |

I finished it! Still need to stitch out the label and attach it.
I can't figure out how to attach a photo. I'll keep trying. |
DJ, that looks absolutely wonderful! I would never have thought of the black sashing, but it really sets it off. Congratulations!
|
could someone do me a favor and click on the last three links in post #386 (a few posts up from here)
When I do, it leads somewhere else. Not nasty, just not where anyone should be able to go. Thank you. |
Two of the last three go to a page that make you sign in (actually some of the other ones also take you to a sign in page). I don't understand to sign in to "blogger"
