I have been working on a quilt with the theme Across the Universe, This is a photo of what came up with.

Thanks for the kudos on my fire tornado. It was a pain to do as the challenge was 18x40 inches. Very vertical!
Love your Universe and can't wait to see it completed--you go girl!

I am looking forward to seeing these efforts. What are you aiming for with these pieces? Or are they sheer play?

I just joined a local art quilt group. Our challenge this month is transparency, so I found this on Pinterest which gave me an idea for my project. Transparency Illusion. Here, a two-dimensional illustration portrays depth when an interval between two hues gives the illusion of transparency. The color that appears to be lying on top of the other depends on which one the interval is closest to in hue. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

I had some dupioni silk which I used for our local art group monthly challenge. The challenge was weaving in neutral colors. I am more a traditional type quilter but some of the entries were really artsy. I serged the tubes first in case they frayed.

This was supposed to be a reply to someone who asked about working with silk.

Asked by a friend to make a green monotone wall hanging... struggling getting depth into the piece.. any thoughts on how to alter this???

I like your pic. I took a break from art quilting for long enough to hand enbroider one. Pinks and yellow flowers with lots of green leaves. Now am almost finished with the hand quilting. Hope to put a pic on here when finished. I miss reading about what everybody is doing. So come on gals and quys lets keep it going again now. Jo

I love what you have done so far Kehoeta. I think that when you do the quilting the depth will happen.

I'm not sure if you do any thread painting, but perhaps that would add depth to certain areas.

Hope this helps.

You made the same mistake I did-- once---look out your window and you will see that as you go into the distance colors get softer not more vibrant. I think if you use some lighter colored thread and a fair amount of quilting on the further bits and darker thread on the front pieces you will get some great depth. More than you thought you could manage I bet! ;)
