How about using the accuquilt equilateral triangle die? 4 1/2 " cut sides for ($25)

Macybaby your other PP is gorgeous! I folded my papers and carefully placed the point on the fold. Used a 1/4 inch seam and still have them off a bit. I think if I do any more, I will piece the strips right to the triangle without the paper and then trim to size. We will see how that goes.

I was curious to see if the method I'm using would come together nicely - so I did 6 rows.

Mine should end up 80x88 without border. So that means 14 more rows to go. I probably won't get to it for a while now. I have the top folded back, it starts at the triangles. I did use the green, but it didn't photo well (dark gloomy day here).

I'm not nearly as fast as Macy. Mine will be more of a leader & ender project. Here's what I have so far - - -

I'm finding that my light sections are too busy and think I'll have to quiet them down as I make more blocks.

Zozee....String along....lol@you. Very clever!

I love this pattern, thank you so much Angelina, for sharing your talent with folks like me who need help :) JC....great job in putting this together.

Sooooo excited! I started my Box of Strings this morning. I have found that I need to allow a tiny bit more fabric on my strings so I don't have any foundation showing when I press that string over. I also found that I need to have at least one of my strings cut 1 3/4 inches wide to eliminate a tiny bit of foundation showing when I attach the last string to the rectangle. (I am using 1 1/2 inch strings precut for another project).

So do the strings end up going past the point of the triangle? So the point isn't cut off in the seam allowance?

I just stumbled upon this today. I am in the middle of sorting scraps and am doing a queen quilt for our bed. The center will be all sized odd pieces (crazy-quilt style) and the main border I just finished with strings and will finish 4 1/2 inches wide - rail-fence style but just 1 row of 4 1/2" blocks. Did the border so I wouldn't run out of (HA, HA) strips. I plan a black 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch black inner border and black outside with black binding. For the Box of Strings I have lots of 5 inch long strips plus bags of longer strings so may size my triangle for this quilt for the 5 inch length - math mind is foggy today so can't figure if the 5 inch will be too short for your size triangle. Need to put it to paper or graph paper. Have the Tri-Recs, so should be easy to re-size. I don't do paper piecing - will just sew to triangle as I usually do for scrap projects.
I surely have plenty of scraps to make at least one of these quilts - since I love black, the triangles probably will be black even if I need to buy more (shudder---). Really don't need more new fabric, but I should buy black, white, natural muslin by the bolt. I have bought muslin that way because I like the look of natural backgrounds. Just printed out instructions (although I don't really need them) and will start on this one soon and use the scraps from it to finish the center of the queen quilt that is in progress - that one is a sit-down with feet up project as all piecing is by hand.

Paper piece one block to test. You don’t need to paper piece the balance if you don’t wish. But all my calculations (and my gut) says 5” is too short. Depending on the width, it might be quite a bit too short.
Try testing a 3.5 x 7 funished size and 3.75 x 7.5 finished size.
