MiraB ... oh myyyyyyyy ... it is even more beautiful than I was prepared for with all your "taste tests" along the way1 Yes, I still see pink frosting with chocolate touches!
Such perfection in your work. The pink and chocolate borders set everything off so nicely. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! :) |
I need a like button to your comment QE...

Thank you QuiltE and oksewglad....
QuiltE the border fabric is called Choco-Latte which I thought was very appropriate |
your quilt is so cute.
|
Mirabelle---Wow!! That is a beautiful quilt. I have fabrics picked out for a DJ, but have decided to start the new FW quilt in August this year instead...maybe I'm just not ready for blocks that small yet. :)

It is finished , binding is on. Hahah it should be in a Storm at Sea with Jane
I spent all day last Thursday at the LQS quilting it on her HQ Avante, had a few problems with the machine and was still there at 5pm when she was closing the shop. She told me to go, and to pick it up when I was on my way home Friday afternoon. She finished the last 3 rows for me. Thank you to everyone for all your encouragement along the way and also to my special friend for the fabric she sent me. You know who you are. Without all of you this quilt would never have been finished so from the bottom of my heart I thank you all. |
Oh Karen, I'm speachless !!!!! You're going to keep it I hope !!! It's stunning and the SAS makes it very special. Now you can sit back and admire your hard work :)
|
I'm awed and cannot imagine what it looks like in real life...what a treasure you have created Karen.
|
Mirabelle--You did such a great job getting this quilt completed in a reasonable amount of time! I was going to join and still haven't even made the first DJ block yet...one of these days that will move to the top of the list. :) The blocks, sashing, borders, quilting...all beautiful.
|
Thank you everyone for your kind words, yes Anael I am keeping this one. I can't remember exactly when I started it, maybe QuiltE can remind me, but it has certainly taken some time to complete. I think I will give little blocks a rest for a while now.... A dear friend gave me the Nearly Insane book (you know who you are) but I am not ready to jump into that one (just yet)!!!!!!
|
Oh so "someone" is passing the small piecing insanity across big water (s).....I wonder how this all got started?:D. Oh by the way working on a mini right now...I don't have time for it, but I had to sew something..no time for a BIG project....
|
If I understand correctly you're going to join the Insane journey one day Karen? Isn't it great to have friends?? :D :D :D

How quickly they have grown up, Anael. Such cute blonde Dutch kids...
Right now 8 of the Grands are here...I have a few minutes of down time...so will catch a few pizza's. They are here until Friday... |
8.......oh dear, don't they wear you out? I was exhausted after three days from 8 am til 8 pm "OMA, OMA, OMA......." and that was only 1 grand ! !
|
Beautiful photo Anael thank you. It looks like Bram is growing fast and catching up to his sister Isa

Well, actually he's not Mirabelle, look at this picture:
This picture was taken last week. |
Just adorable...and actually there are a total of 11..10 were here last night and this morning..down to 3 now as the 2 Dutch kids left with their folks, 5 farm Grands went home. That leaves the 3 NC Grands..and 2 of those are down for a nap.
Tired..you ask..yes happy/sad to see the NC Grands head home tomorrow..when I have a moment I'll post a picture. Guess what...no sewing done for a week...... |
Well I'm still at Jane...off and on. I counted 139 blocks done, only 86 to go!!! But now I'm starting to wonder about how this quilt was originally quilted ( by hand, yes i know that ) as I've never seen a close up of the surface or recall anyone discussing this.
Takers? |
Hi MaryK ... yeaaaaaa for you continuing with your DJ.
Mine stopped dead (and all sewing for that matter) in the spring while I worked on the book. The DJ blocks are still on their design wall, staring at me when I go into the sewing room! The good news is that I have actually managed a bit of sewing in the last few days, but not Jane. I've been thinking of my Janes, and not sure how I will proceed when I get to it. As for the original ... yes, hand quilted and from, what I remember I think it was just minimal and varied according to the designs. I know I have seen some pics, but can't remember where. Maybe some of the others have the links all nicely saved?? And now, maybe you and some of the others will nudge me back to my Jane. All I know is that mine is not going to be a real Jane ... I will be changing it up! |
You know QE...nothing is ever exactly like the original...glad to hear you are thinking about your Jane. Last night I worked on cutting fabrics for my FWS. I chose to finish that rather than start the new FWS sew along..
|
Well I've certainly been out of the loop.
What BOOK? |
MK I'm using the original FWS for the Civil War fabrics. I have Kansas Troubles fabrics in the FWS Pony Club quilt. Since neither of these are finished I opted not to start the FWS 30's with the quilt along on board..they are on week 10 this week..Honchey is hosting it as she did the lots two. Look in
Blocks of the Month and Week for all the weeks...below is the current week. http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...e-t270771.html |
OKSGlad ...for sure! ... I never do cookie cutter quilts. Always something different to the original.
MKatherine ... yup, researched and wrote a book with a friend, "The Cheese Factories, Creameries and Dairies of Clearview Townships and Collingwood. It made its debut at Collingwood Fair, along with a display of antiques and relevant signage. As you can imagine, it has a limited readership ... though I bet the subject matter will get OKSGlad's attention! :) |
