You give me hope, Emma. I did the same as you - single black, neutral, yellow - and your block looks much less chaotic than the fully scrappy one in the reveal. There's still hope for my quilt :) I haven't had a chance to play with blocks yet (2 mysteries going on today, and one from yesterday that didn't get finished) but I hope to put some blocks together later today.

Just in case anyone is not on Facebook. Several quilters are substituting a solid block for the center with great results.

WOW. Busy busy!
I'm glad I used a constant for all the fabrics. The computer generated pictures are much less busy than her photo.
I also planned on at least 1/4 size with the option of doing half (I have enough fabric for half). I'll have to play around and see which I prefer. I am way behind in sewing so may be a good time to increase or decrease before I go any further. After golf today I was going to get caught up. Now I will get out the paper and see how I want to do things.

I am not on Facebook and I wonder which solid they are using for the centers?
I may put it aside until some pictures are posted for ideas.

have it all laid out now 2 blocks by 3 blocks (1/4) quilt...and even have the center 4 patches all going the correct way around... took the picture too soon...giggle..

If you look at the picture of Bonnies with her dad she has the center 4 patches going different directions. She calls that movement! There's no right or wrong.

Been playing around with the blocks. Decided to change the center block to a solid color and change the placement of the sashing. ..trying to reduce sensory overload of the pattern...if that's possible. LOL
Before pic is actual block design....after is the modification.

I'm wondering how yellow or aqua would look in the center.

So what do you think? I appreciate your suggestions.

Prefer the solid pink much more.

sewbizgirl 01-01-2015 11:47 AM

I like the pink centers, but I wouldn't change the placement of the sashing blocks. The blacks in the sashing are place to continue the "explosion" of the exploding block. Random black squares floating around just don't make any sense, IMO.

nanny, you are using the broken dishes with the neutral rather than the ones with aquas/pinks

Did you intend to do that or did you pick up the wrong stack?

I like your aqua center and corners.
