Thanks ThimbleB!
... instead of it being used as a runner, it has become a wall hanging.
Only problem ... I hung it vertically, and the words were used on the horizontal.
Maybe I should now call it "Vertically Challenged"? :D

Here is a picture of an 80" square patriotic quilt I just finished. The center of the quilt started with the printed Eagle & Prairie Star panel from the American Valor collection and I pieced the remaining 4 prairie stars and the stripes and bear paws around that. JulieDeGrave, a very talented LAQ, quilted the quilt. I'll probably be posting it later this week when I get a chance to download more pictures. You all should see the amazing work Julie did on the eagle, which doesn't show up here.

BuzzinBumble....your quilt is breath taking.

[QUOTE=peggymunday;5149581]Can it be projects that have been previously completed? This is a wallhanging that was requested by a friend for a new family member that hailed from Canada. A blending of American and Canadian. They were thrilled with the result. I tried to stay to scale on placements for each flag, and had to make patterns for the stars (they were actually painted and then outline stitched) and the maple leaf (drawn freehand on a folded paper, then unfolded to have a symmetrical result). Here's some pics...

Nothing spectacular here. Just some simple Canadiana Mug Rugs!

When I was setting up my machine to quilt Monty, these were some of the trial pieces that I did to get the settings right and then to practice FMQ. I used a cream thread for the cream print on the backing and then the top thread was matched to the area I was working on, so it took some fiddling to get the tension right! These little ones helped me get the thread on the proper sides ... and avoid pokies for the better part!

Finally finished!

Here is one of my patriotic projects. The four pink and green blocks on the left are currently being redone in red white and blue.

dublb 11-15-2013 04:34 PM

Oh Jennie I have moved since I've "talked" ta ya. I found a wonderful house in the center o' Midland that I just love. We moved the end o' July. Now if I can just sell my old house. LOL I've got a huge sewin' room, though it is full o' boxes right now.
I have missed ya a bunch.

HuntersGrammie ... Thanks! All are the same fabrics I used for Monty the Mountie, earlier in this thread, completed July 2012. The black print, I bought it the year before at Fabricland. I haven't been able to find the black again, though I did get the same print in blue with the flags this summer. The cream has the full lyrics for O Canada printed faintly in the background and was a part of a collection of Canadian themed fabrics. Sorry, I forget what company but am pretty sure it was a name brand. I bought it here locally, not a national store. I have seen it and several of the others in the collection, periodically since then.

I like the fabric and O Canda lyrics on it. Really innovative idea.

Thank you Links... What attracted me was the subtlety of it. It came in a light turquoise on cream as well. Perhaps you would join us, and start a patriotic project of your choice?

Hi QuiltE,
How to join this, I live in Brompton, it is very cold, I never go out of my house these days.

QuiltE 01-18-2014 05:35 AM

Good Morning Links ... Being that you picked up on the Canada fabric, I'm guessing Brompton, Quebec but I do know there is a Brompton, England. This thread and the projects in it are for patriotism for any country!

To "join" ... make something patriotic and then show us what you are doing. Some have shown their fabrics when they start, and pictures of their project as they work along. It's kind of like working on it together. Plus, the ooohs and aaaahs help to keep you on track to finish and not let it become an UFO!!!

So put your thinking cap on, and go shopping in your stash .... and let us know what you are going to do!

works4me 01-19-2014 06:14 AM

We'd love you to join us links123. Miserable weather outside makes perfect sewing time inside, as long as you still have power. :)

Howdy Bev :). Great job on your pot holder. Miss hearing from you... guess our paths haven't been crossing on the board. :(

Have an awesome day friend.

Jen

works4me 04-28-2014 05:19 AM

Fabulous job dublb. Is that in honour of Texas perhaps? :) It looks great. Is it for you or are you giving it to someone special?

Hi Jenniky.

thimblebug6000 04-28-2014 07:15 AM

Cute potholder! I'd be afraid to use it & get it stained.

QuiltE 04-28-2014 11:47 AM

Nice assortment of fabrics, DublB ... for a well chosen block pattern.
Then a true Texan backing!

I'm with TBug ... cute, but would give it a place of honour to keep it looking nice!

So who has another Patriotic Project in the works?
Please do tell us ... maybe even some WIP pics? :)

dublb 05-07-2014 10:16 PM

Hey Jennie! I have missed ya too! How are ya doin'? & What are ya up ta?
I just got back from a retreat & am very tired!
I'm so glad that everybody likes my pot holder. It is in Brady & will be used when we are there. It took a bit ta convince DH ta use my potholders, but he does now. (He is the cook.)

works4me 06-25-2014 01:22 PM

A bit of news: Canada D'Eh is in a local quilt store window for Canada Day. The previous owner of the shop designed the pattern so they still sell the pattern. The store made their version, which sticks close to the original. My version uses the pattern as inspiration. So, their version is in one window and mine in another.

I am so excited. This is a first for me! That, and the new Janome 8900 my husband and myself treated me to recently, gives me incentive to quilt Something Patriotic sooner rather than later. The store carries the O Canada line of fabric so, maybe they will display SP next year. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Pictures to follow soon. :) :) :)

Is anyone working on something patriotic of their own these days?

dublb 06-25-2014 06:31 PM

I bought a TX pillow panel & gave half o' it ta a DF o' mine. (I didn't 2 o' the same Texas. ;) ) I was gonna put a border on it & then use flannel as backin' & no battin', but I think that I'll just turn the edges down & pin it ta the wall until I git around ta plan A. :)

works4me 06-26-2014 05:18 AM

Would love to see a photo sometime dublb.

QuiltE 06-26-2014 05:25 AM

That's absolutely great news, W4Me!
I'll look forward to seeing the pics .... of yours and the original version!
How impressive that your work is being shown!!!!!!!

No patriotic work right now ... though I keep looking at the O Canada piece from last year (the stripey/print) and thinking it should become some sort of a tote! So I am sure that will be my next patriotic project!!

works4me 06-26-2014 06:29 AM

Thanks QuiltE. It may be commonplace for others on the board but my work never gets shown so it is a big deal for me. Plus, I am really proud of how I combined cross stitch into the quilt.

I'd love to see a tote from O Canada fabric. We all need more shopping bags, don't we? :)

QuiltE 06-26-2014 06:47 AM

You're Welcome W4Me ............ And a bigger deal that yours is being shown in an LQS! That's impressive to make "that" cut! So often they do not show any work, other than their own, so huge congratulations to you!! Your inclusion of another technique is special too, as many keep the lines between quite separate. BTW do they sell cross stitch supplies too? So a double sale promo for them.

Oh surrrrrre ... nudge me to another project, when I already have a gazillion on the go! :D
Yes ... we all need more FART bags! :D

works4me 06-26-2014 09:58 AM

Thanks for being such a great cheerleader QuiltE. It didn't occur to me but, yes, the store recently started selling floss. Not sure about other supplies though.

You finish your projects so another one isn't an issue.:) Mind you, don't I hear Miss Peep weeping way off in the distance? Top her staff with a Canadian flag and she can be on two threads instead of just one. :D

hahahahaha .... oh yes, I finish my projects ... some faster than others! And have made great headways this year. Miss Peep still has her very own dedicated project box, so that is good news ... that it has not been dispersed! It's not that I haven't thought of her ... and maybe because I have no one in particular for her, that she continues to suffer in captivity! :D:D

Feel free to make Miss Peep for me. :) Will that get her out of the box? :D

And, drumroll, please:

When the owner told me Canada D'Eh was in the front window I didn't realize how prominent it would be. She also told me there is quite a large event planned for July 1 so people would see my quilt.

Here is the store front. The quilt in the other window is the store's version of the pattern I used for Canada D'Eh. They stuck a lot closer to the pattern than I did.

Works4me - that is so exciting for you to have your so prominently displayed for everyone to see. It is just beautiful, you did a marvelous job with it. Congratulations!!!

QuiltE 06-27-2014 03:20 PM

FANTASTIC W4Me!!! .... did your ♥ skip a beat when you saw yours in the window? :)
Looks like a nice big store ... and quite inviting.
Cute mini car quilt to the left of yours! :D

dublb 06-27-2014 10:29 PM

Well I think it looks just wonderful in the window! :)

Anael 06-27-2014 10:38 PM

YEAH w4me, that's fantastic! Congrats ! ! ! !

works4me 06-28-2014 04:18 AM

Thank you everyone. I am tickled pink seeing that quilt in the window. I really like how it turned out. This particular quilt store isn't all that convenient for me but will be my go-to store from now on. Wonder why? :)

The car quilt to the left of mine is advertising the upcoming car and quilt walk in August. I doubt we will have a car in the show but I will enter a few quilts. Entry fee goes to local a charity.

QuiltE 06-28-2014 12:01 PM

W4Me ... you go girl!!! ... and show some in the Quilt Walk. Is it a competition show? or for exhibit only?

works4me 06-28-2014 01:26 PM

It is kind of a competition. Visitors vote on their favourite quilts. But, the quilts are so spread out that no one can see them all. I enter it as an exhibit.

The only year I entered, I was looking at my quilt in a store window and the store owner commented how gorgeous the quilt was and that she chose it for her window. She was quite pleased when I told her it was my quilt. Needless to say, I was pretty pleased myself.

QuiltE 06-28-2014 02:41 PM

Oh what fun, when we are the fly on the wall ... and hear such good things! :)
I'm sure you will delight them this year, once again.
