Hello Ladies jumping on the board long enough to get caught up with what is going on. QuiltE Love Monty's Mustache. :) I have been busy sitting with a friend who is not feeling well so I have not been able to get any sewing done. Tomorrow with luck I might get to work on some quilting however I have the feeling I will be needed tomorrow as well. Lets all hope for some rain and a cool breeze. For those that need a break from the heat. I think I will work on my Firehouse block this evening and then tomorrow maybe I can take it along with me and do the applique by hand. :)

Have a wonderful evening ...

Amazing the difference a location makes. Here, we are living up to our nickname "the wet coast". Dry yesterday and today but the clouds are rolling in and it is supposed to get ugly and wet again tonight and tomorrow and at least part of Saturday. I haven't had to water at all but the weeds are taking over as I can't get enough dry time to pull them and, as fast as I do, the rain comes along and they grow again. No vegetables have even been planted at our place yet this year.

We are dealing with floods, too. Not at our place. We are landlocked where I am and we are at the top of a hill, too.

Yet, dry as a bone elsewhere, in the east, and wildfires. Mother Nature is making sure we know who's boss.

dettonlisas - yes, the projects are pretty cool. Think we can persuade you to join us, even with something small?

QuiltE - Monty is going to be a handsome devil with that 'stache. Well done.

SewExtremeSeams - I laughed out loud when you mentioned the chickens wandering in the house. I am 100% city girl. The closest I came to some unusualt critter coming inside was when we moved into a brand new house and it came with its very own mouse. 4 adults chasing a teeny little mouse around a bedroom. Now, that was a sight.
Yippe for going shopping while all the noise is going on. Good luck.

dublb - see how much we learn from this thread? I will make it a point to Google Yellow Rose of Texas.

Jenniky - you are a good friend. Good idea getting the block ready to be portable.

JenniKy ... so good of you to help care for your sick friend. Smart lady to get some handwork ready for your next sitting spell.

DublB ... I do like the song and now the story behind it!

Thanks everyone!! ... borders are cut and hope to be added tonight. Then will need to stop and practice quilting before I can finalize the backing and sandwich it. Would like to use black in bobbin, white on top ... so need to see if I can get the tension right for that. Otherwise, back to a light backing.

Hi Ladies (we are all ladies aren't we? I wouldn't want to offend a gent if he is participating in the challenge:D)

In a bit of a hurry today. Finally pulled out my patriotic fabric that I have had for eons! What do you think? Even found a few more pieces I had forgotten I had.

I am quickly putting together placemats for our friends who invited us to dinner tonight. Don't have time to run to the fab store as it is 35+ minutes to town, sew... I am planning to bind it with same fabric. Ohhh, can't believe out of all my fabric stash I don't have something suitable to go with this.

Roofers have been up there for a couple of hours already. The inside stuff gets started sometime after the 4th. I have always wanted to sew outside so this may be my chance. DH works in his workshop all day anyway on his lovely segmented wood bowls. He is trying to make a simple cross today for our home but said it is giving him fits. My Mom used to always tell me that simple patterns are sometimes the hardest to get finished. Can't tell you how many times her words have rang true in my ears as I am ripping seams out. :D

When, DH and I were married 8 years ago we decided 'no kids' and 'no indoor pets' and it has been nice. We have had miniature cows but now only raise chickens, have 2 dogs and 2 barn cats. The dogs have been trained NOT to step into an open door but you know how cats are:D but it was the chickens feelin' like they were welcome that has made me laugh the most. I mean sometimes one has followed DH from front door to kitchen when he is bringing in the shopping packages. Oh dear, I gotta get off here and sew my brains out. I am not doing any fancy design today but I know my friend will be blessed with simple. She always sees me working on stuff for other people so it will be nice to give them to her and her DH. Have a great day. If time permits :D (I hope) I will post the finished placemats on here before we leave.

I love your fabric. I have some of it, too, and made my husband and I shirts which we wear on all patriotic days and holidays.

Now that you've told us you are going to have to show us some pictures. How about posting some next Wednesday?

SewExS ... yes sometimes the easiest things create the most problems. Though I think it's kind of a revenge to our thinking it's easy! I'm sure your friends will appreciate anything that you do right now, knowing how much of an upheaval your life is in. Great flag fabric ... I've even seen it for sale here in Canada!

FmHall ... ITA with Muv ... you really must show us pics of the two of you celebrating on the 4th, complete with your "official" shirts!

Not patriotic but DONE! My mind always sees sugar plums dancing in my head when it comes time to do projects. :D I cut fabric out to make reversible patriotic AND jungle/coffee print placemats for our friends. They frequently eat on TV trays so I made them extra big to fit the TV tray. Started on the jungle/coffee ones (they love coffee) and just finished after a couple of breaks. Patriotic ones will have to wait for another day/time. Time to scoot of the computer and get ready.

ps: I always sew my binding on one side and hand stitch on the other side. not today. much, much prefer hand stitching on one side but my placemats would not have gotten done in time.

SES - Those are darlin'! Everything I make, takes longer than I think they will!!!

Patriotic Quilt Top Done

Well, I got my Rows of Sweet Liberty quilt top done last weekend. I was hoping to get it on the frame and quilted by the 4th, but work has been insane, and have had lots of roadblocks in getting it loaded onto the frame. But at least I achieved part of my goal. The pattern was called Rows of Sweet Liberty and was part of a Stash Dash here in my area. The fabric collection is Sweet Liberty by Pat Sloan. Unfortunately the small red, white, and blue stars on the blue and red fabrics look like dots in the pic. Of course, the Dash was in 2010, but better late then never. Hopefully it will be ready to grace my home next July 4th.

Thanks for the challenge, it gave me just the push I needed. Love all that you have done!
