QuiltE - I will add my vote to see your table runner also. :)

I have had several people interested in the QAYG process so Im going to send Patrice a EMail and see what about issuing a challenge to Build Your Own Quilt As You Go Quilt from abandoned or stray blocks of the same size. I figure this way we can all share our progress and Im not cluttering up the BOM and this thread with all my pictures and discussions. :) So I will hold off posting anymore pictures of my QAYG projects until I hear back from Patrice. :)

One final post and then I'm out of the office for the afternoon!

Jenniky ... That sounds like a great challenge to start, though I will sadly be declining, if it's something that starts soon. I just clearly have too much on my plate, though would really like to do it as it's a technique I'd like to learn and I know it would be great to do it as a joint effort. Are you going to do all different types of QAYG techniques? I was thinking this morning when I was drivingand without knowing you were going to post this, that it wouldn't have to be blocks of all the same size. Could just become a mish-mash kind of like those curio shelves with assorted shapes and sizes. YOu're pulling at me ... though I know I just can't get started on anything more. :(

Thanks for the added vote, though, as above, it'll be awhile before the reveal!

If Patrice approves It will be a long challenge so you can join anytime. :) I just need to do something with all my orphaned blocks. And yes I plan to explore all of the QAYG techniques. :)

Oh Jenniky what a great idea! I have two BOM from last year that are just sitting in a box waiting to be put together. This would be great for me to get them out and finished. I would love to learn this technique. Jan sure does a great job on her quilts using this method! I'll be sure to follow along!

Jenniky ... OK I know I said it was THE last for now, butttt .... a woman can change her mind, right?
You're luring me in, you know that don't you?

JeanieG ... Yes indeedy-do JanRN does do a wonderful job! Maybe we can bring her along to that thread, and share some of what she has learned along the way

I have so enjoyed looking at all of the great work you have completed on this thread! I joined in when you first started & said you had inspired me to finish a flag wall hanging I had started 5 years ago. It started with a free pattern that I found online. I made the flag center then changed up the borders to my liking. Well, when the top was done, it wasn't to my liking at all! It wasn't hideous, but just kind of big & blah. So, I put it away for several years until I saw this thread in the spring & decided I needed to do something to finish it. I had hoped to have it finished before the 4th of July, but that didn't happen, but hey, what's another few weeks after it sat there unfinished for 5 years! This is what I finally came up with & I am much happier with it! Those are the first feathers I have quilted & I am quite happy with them. I used the method from Sally Terry's book "Hooked on Feathers". You can tell they are not traditional feathers, but I really like the look. I, too, have been working on my FMQ skills on my DSM. One thing I agree with everyone else on is PRACTICE! I have a lot of old drapery lining I use to practice on. Thank you again for all of the inspiration!

So glad we could inspire you Maggiemay. The quilt was worth the wait. It is amazing. I love the way it waves. And your FMQ is beautiful. Well done.

Now, what will you do for next year? :)

Wow Maggie that is amazing.... I love what you have done. *** Uses Hand to close mouth dropping AWE!!*** That is like the most amazing, beautiful quilt top makeover I have yet to see.

I have my first row complete on my BOM QAYG. The first blocks I joined I machine sewed the two strips to the block then I hand sewed the a joining block. It looked nice however I was determined to try more than one way. So the next one I machine sewed both sashing strips to one side then I machine stitched one of the other sides to the opposite square. When I laid them flat they fit together smoothly. I was so pleased. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I then flipped it over and hand sewed the back closed. It really made for a beautiful finish. I went back and took out the first sash joining I did by hand and redid it with the machine so it all matches. I havent heard back from Patrice but I figure its gonna take a few days. Im sure she gets lots of emails. I have been taking pictures as I work on different parts of the process. I predict many many of my orphaned blocks are going to find a home in a QAYG. I like the process. I will be getting a lot more FMQ practice this way. It's really true though its practice practice practice and more practice. So I recommend everyone make lots of Doggie Puddle Pads or Dinner Mats whatever works for you. Ok that is my inspirational talk for the day. Now Im going to go and try to draw Mikey's Ghoulfriend.
:D
