Sounds like a lot of people are right on track- awesome! I've got mine ready to go for NYD, all pressed & trimmed. Now it's just a matter of keeping the cats from wrinkling them up in the meanttime :)

Jmoore, I'm loving those fabrics! Especially the teal colored one with the flowers- gorgeous!

I hope everyone who celebrates a winter holiday has had a lovely time so far. New Year's is fast approaching and I can't wait (well, mostly I can't wait for another 3 day weekend off work)

SusieQOH 12-28-2021 06:36 AM

Mine are ready to go!
I'm using a bundle of Jinny Beyer fabrics I forgot I had.

sewbizgirl 12-28-2021 10:18 AM

I used part of a batik layer cake that I never knew quite what to do with. Have them cut and marked, not sewn yet.

I had my eye on that collection . . . fabulous!

I have my HST ready for NYD. All fabrics were gifted to me recently. I just had to buy background. Great way to start the new year

Ready for NYD. This is 1/4 of the squares and 1/2 of the waste. Opps. Walked into the sewing room to find a stack not trimmed. Back at it.

The method I like for half square triangles is from Power Cutting and doesn't have as much waste.

jmoore 12-29-2021 04:11 AM

SusieQOH and SBG, can’t wait to see your fabric choices. CJsews and PTF your HSTs look great and it will be fun to see how everyone’s quilts make up… I have always enjoyed Merry Mayhem’s NYD mystery.

Finally got my HSTs sewn and trimmed and I'm all caught up! Ready for New Year's Day. This fabric is from a batik layer cake, plus some neutral batik yardage.

jmoore 12-31-2021 03:43 AM

SBG, cozy warm HSTs…I can’t wait to see how your batiks come together in the mystery quilt.

SusieQOH 12-31-2021 07:44 AM

SBG- those batiks are awesome! Mine are very saturated with color. I forgot all about this bundle (Jinny Beyer) until the other day.
They aren't batiks but I think they will work well. I'll take a pic, forgot to.

sewbizgirl 12-31-2021 08:50 AM

My fabrics look pretty dark and blah in the picture, but there are actually some beautiful deep reds with the rusts and browns. I hope I like it in the end. It's going to be a donation quilt. I'm doing the lap size...

sewbizgirl 12-31-2021 08:52 AM

Only 2 days until the mystery is revealed... :)

Here are mine.
SBG- yours don't look blah at all. They are lovely!
I almost did batiks but then I found this bundle so I thought I'd use it. I haven't used my batiks in a long time. Need to get going with them.

I made 4 Christmas quilts this year. I'm totally over those fabrics lol.

Isn't it tomorrow?

sewbizgirl 12-31-2021 06:33 PM

Susie, you are right. It’s tomorrow!

Your batiks are lovely!

happylab 12-31-2021 11:43 PM

I will be collecting the pattern this year. I have 2/3 of my fabric selected, but need to go through 2 more boxes of scraps for the others. I will try to sew the 1/2 squares as we do the other steps. My plan to get up early and find my fabric and cut/mark and sew/trim them throughout the morning. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress.

Love everyone’s fabric choices.
Unlike the past two Merry Mayhem’s, I’m starting nyd behind. I’m still working on my HSTs. That puts the pressure on for today!
I picked out anything with blue and green from a FreeSpirit Layer cake. Using Grunge white for background.

jmoore 01-01-2022 04:19 AM

Beverly, your HSTs look great…I’m glad you’ve started on them. I’m sure you will catch up quickly.

vadalia 01-01-2022 06:55 AM

Today's the big day!

Happy New Year ladies! (and any lurking gentlemen) My apologies for being AWOL for the past few days, I was taking it easy after getting the Covid booster.

Everyone's fabrics look so good. I love the variety from more traditional looking to more modern- can't wait to see everyone's results!

Assuming she's on schedule, the next clue should be posted in a few minutes at 10 am EST. I encourage everyone to also follow along with the FB page if you can, I love seeing everyone's finished quilts they post there.

sewingpup 01-01-2022 07:40 AM

Still playing catch-up with Bonnie's mystery but also want to do this one and I believe I have my fabrics picked out. However today is going to be busy, does anyone know how long the clues will be up for this one?

Usually she keeps them up through Jan 2nd I believe. I'd try to snag them at the end of today if possible, just in case, but tomorrow should be okay too.

cjsews 01-01-2022 07:54 AM

Got mine all cut. One miss cut. I’m glad I had spare fabric to re do that one

petthefabric 01-01-2022 08:01 AM

The clues can be printed and saved for whenever.

I'm glad I didn't choose larger. Got 1/2 cut and back needs a break.

The view from the studio window is great. The birds are happy and fat.

vadalia 01-01-2022 08:02 AM

Part 4 is up: https://www.merrymayhem.com/new-year...y-quilt#yAQgwo

cjsews, I'm jealous of your speed. I only got all of one type of HST done, which makes the next step seem like I'm gonna have to catch up for it.

vadalia 01-01-2022 08:31 AM

This step's been fun, although I gotta stop for a minute and eat something (shouldn't have skipped breakfast)

Are you guys making the block using all the same fabric, the same color, or are you going completely scrappy? I'm going completely scrappy but all my fabrics are green so they also stay within the same color family. I've made 2 so far and I love how they look!

SusieQOH 01-01-2022 08:53 AM

vadalia, I'm doing scrappy but within a color bundle I bought some time ago.
I'm afraid I cut mine wrong. I think d, e, and f are the same as a, b, c- just upside down. UGH!

vadalia 01-01-2022 09:03 AM

Part 5 is up: https://www.merrymayhem.com/new-year...y-quilt#yAQgwo

Oh no, SusieQOH! Maybe if you like the final design you can try just using the incorrectly cut ones to make a bigger version? Assuming they can't be finagled somehow to work.

petthefabric 01-01-2022 09:10 AM

I also cut wrong, but only one and was able to safe it.

At 9:08, I've got Part 3 finished and Part 5 just came out. Already behind 1 clue.

Attachment 637039

Got up early for Merry Mayhem. Here in California it's the Rose Bowl Parade. So I'm taking another break.

SusieQOH 01-01-2022 09:17 AM

Looks good, Pet- glad you didn't get them all wrong the way I did. Not sure how I'm going to proceed!

jmoore 01-01-2022 09:33 AM

Think I”m going to stick with scrappy like SusieQOH…I am using a layer cake bundle. I just got home a little after noon so I’m playing catch up.

joe'smom 01-01-2022 09:38 AM

I'm just spectating this year, looking forward to seeing your quilts. Such beautiful fabrics being shown!

SusieQOH, bummer! Do you have any extra fabric?

Watson 01-01-2022 09:43 AM

OK..finished clue 5 and this is shaping up nicely, so far. I am doing all the same within a block, as I didn't feel I had enough variety to do scrappy.

Watson

Finished a couple of Part 4 and Part 5

vadalia 01-01-2022 10:06 AM

Wow!

Part 6 is a whopper! In the best of ways, of course: https://www.merrymayhem.com/new-year...y-quilt#yAQgwo

Which option are you guy's choosing? I'm definitely leaning towards D.

jmoore 01-01-2022 10:43 AM

As much as I like D, since I am only doing the QOV size, I’m not sure how well the pattern will repeat…I may end up going with Version B

SusieQOH 01-01-2022 10:52 AM

Joe'smom- No I don't have any more. Not sure what I'm going to do.
I told my husband that I'm famous for this type of thing and he said at least I'm famous for something haha!!! He cracks me up :D

vadalia 01-01-2022 11:08 AM

Part 7, the final step, has been posted: https://www.merrymayhem.com/new-year...y-quilt#yAQgwo

This quilt turned out to have an amazing pattern(s), leaving me for the 2nd time (out of the 3 Merry Mayhem's Mysteries I've participated in) wishing I'd gone with a bigger size. Oh well, I did find an 8x8 version of Option D I like even though I think if I'd done more block for that one it would have been even more impressive.

I'll be continuing to work on this all day & will post pics of the finished quilt top once I've got it done. Can't wait to see all of your's!

jmoore 01-01-2022 11:10 AM

Susie…sorry about your dilemma. Nice that your husband is trying to cheer you up.

I'm doing the same size so I had to work with it a little to figure out how best I liked it. I like basically centering 2 diamonds on top of one another in the middle column, then radiating 4 squares out in each direction from the center of that. I love the way it looks in her black & white example, less so in the color example but I think that's just because there's too many colors used in the color version (won't be a problem with my all-green quilt)
