It is for 2008, some people just got in the mood early!

Chele 12-29-2007 05:17 PM

Don't try to get out of it so easily icesnowquilter! LOL! Starting Tuesday, you'll have a whole year. Just think of the scraps you'll accumulate! I can't wait to see your finished quilt!

jbsstrawberry 12-29-2007 05:49 PM

The challenge is for 2008, I was just excited about completing my first project with my new machine. I plan to do more scrap projects throughout the new year. Lord knows I have plenty of "left-overs" from all kinds of sewing projects over the years.

Lisa,
You made a wonderful quilt. And this is your first? You did great.

Betty Ruth 12-29-2007 07:20 PM

Love your quilt, Lisa. I've made several similar ones. The embroidry work is convenient to carry to Dr's appts, ets.

Well, it's 2008 and I finished this one on January 2, just over the wire. This is a crib quilt made for teachers I work with who are expecting their first child. I began it before they found out it wil be a girl, but I had already planned for that.

The front is made from all the pink pieces I could find in my stash. The back is made from all the blue pieces I could find. I did not cut any of the strips to size, they are the width that I had. Only the half-square triangles are cut but from pieces that I already had at that size.

I was experimenting with a quilt as you go method, so it went together fairly quickly. :-)

So, I guess we can say it is a sample for the scrap challenge. The happy couple received the blanket yesterday and were delighted with it, thank God. :D

very beautiful job

Yvonne 01-06-2008 07:28 AM

What a sweet quilt, Connie. I like the way you covered the "boy/girl" colors.
Great!
Did you enjoy the quilt-as-you-go method? Would you do another with it? Just curious.

Chele 01-06-2008 07:37 AM

How cute Connie! I love the way it is two-sided. Two quilts in one!

Moonpi 01-06-2008 07:49 AM

That is beautiful - can you give us a little more detail on the method you used?

annmarie 01-06-2008 08:01 AM

What a clever idea! And a good way to use up scraps. So I guess you get the prize for 1st. 2008 scrap quilt completed. Good for you!

I'm doing a BOM so mine will be down to the wire in Dec.

Connie Hadba 01-06-2008 08:47 AM

Thanks for the compelemnts everyone. The method is not very difficult to do. You quilt each block as you make it. Remember the Flip and Sew tablerunner we did for a chatroom class? The method is very similar to that except you are working one block at a time. A friend gave me the directions on a photocopied sheet and I do not know where she got them. The method is versatile enough that you could do several quilts using it.

But with the BOMs coming up for 2008, there is too much to do to repeat something already tried. Onward and upward. :-)

This is a delightful quilt and a 2 sided one to boot. This is a wonderful scrapy quilt.

annmarie 01-25-2008 07:52 PM

Feathers & anyone else who may have missed this thread. Here is the info on the 2008 scrap quilt challenge for charity. In a nutshell, you finish a scrap quilt in 2008 & donate it to the organization of your choice. (But you don't have to if you want to keep it)

ArtquilterNEWWAYtoQUILT 01-25-2008 08:35 PM

  :D This is a Wonderful Idea I will be joining in. I already am using my stash and scraps but as I cut I get more scraps and didn't know what to do in the past when I did clothes I gave them away but Now O this is soooo gooood!!!

Feathers 02-07-2008 05:53 PM

Count me in...I want to be a part of the 2008 Quilt Challenge. What more do I have to do to sign up for the challenge?

hannahsmom 02-07-2008 06:04 PM

this is such a WONDERFUL idea.. I am going to take on this challange!!

annmarie 02-07-2008 08:06 PM

No need to sign up! Just pick a scrappy quilt & do it!!! Then post a picture when it's done!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stashbuster/

I found this link - it is for Stashbuster Quilts - and they are also having a challenge to use only your scraps to make quilts (for one year!)

I know we all want to continue to support the fabric industry, and our challenge is just to make one quilt from scraps during 2008. I know I will continue to buy fabrics!

Anyway, this site for trinity quilts is a place you can show off your scrap quilt photos if you choose to join.

Looking forward to seeing all your 2008 Scrap Quilt Challenge photos posted here!

annmarie 03-05-2008 09:46 AM

Wendy - I couldn't find anything about Stashbusters or a scrap quilt challenge at that site.

quiltmaker101 03-05-2008 11:38 AM

Sorry, try the new link I posted. I removed the faulty one.

Andi 03-05-2008 02:29 PM

I finished 2 preemie quilts last week and they are from my stash. I recently moved and joined a new quilting guild in BC. I arrived just in time to participate in the February green challenge, this was to only use stash materials. So when I donate the quilts they will go for donation, plus it qualifies for this challenge as well as the quilt challenge. So I have killed 3 birds with one stone lol

Well..it looks like I'll have to see if I can manage the time. We found a puppy in the corridor of the building. She's really cute but only about 3 months old. It looks like I will be spending alot of my time training. I only have about 10 blocks left of last year's quilt but I just can't seem to get the time. I'm always running after her as she runs away with a shoe in her mouth.

Not buying more fabric will be easy as it's not cheap for the first year of a dogs life.

Blue Bell 03-05-2008 08:42 PM

I love your new puppy.

Quilting Aggi 03-06-2008 04:34 AM

ooh I wanna be part of this too!!!!! Time to start scrappin'... hee hee I already know the pattern I want to make!

I completed a lap quilt yesterday, entirely from my stash, and you can't tell anything is missing. Regarding scrap piles, I keep my scraps in one of the largest Rubermaid tubs, and it's running over.

Betty Ruth:
"It's running over???"....you have only 1 Rubbermaide scrap tub ? Poor girl, you are scrap deficient and need to get busy .....I have 15 tubs in my sewing room full of scraps and I love every thread! I know, I know, there is probably some mental illness associated with 15 tubs of scraps but I won't tell if you won't!

beachlady 03-07-2008 01:31 PM

I love this challenge and hope I can make one - can I borrow one of your 15 tubs? Does size matter? Ha Ha!

Connie: I really like your boy/girl quilt idea. I also like the way you did the blocks. All the same fabric half triangle in each diagnol (Sorry about the spelling...too early in the am, I think! ) row sewed to what looks like a scrappy triangle to make your square blocks. Cool! I like it.

Knot Sew 03-08-2008 05:45 AM

I only have one container of scraps...............but I do have a lot of stuff I started and some whole blocks and a shelf of smallpieces..............We have a cat shelter......and a local nursing home.........those are where mine will go

Ruth: I'm so glad to hear you give blankies to the animal shelter. We foster kitties for our rescue shelter and when each our kitties is adopted I make them a flannel quilt about 20 inches square and lay it on the chair where our kitties like to sleep so when the kitten goes to his new home he has the smells of his siblings and old home with him. Our quilt group also makes laprobs and quilts for nursing home and our local VET's Home but we don't do as many for the nursing and VETS home as we do for the kids. All are excellent, worthy and needy places for our handiwork.

If your little girl grows into her feet she may be a BIG girl! Thank you for rescueing her when nobody wanted her. It makes my heart happy to hear of people like you who will take an unwanted animal and give it a loving home. There are so many homeless animals. THANK YOU!
