Since I've never made one is there things I should know to allow? I guess I didn't know they use a paper or card stock base. Whatever is usual for making them is fine with me.

Here is one that I learned from:
http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...c_postcard.htm
another
http://www.dollyduo.com/Fabric%20Pos...structions.htm
Here is a tute I found on You Tube

These help give ideas. I still like using the heavy timtex for the stability.

Thanks QM for the links. I am sure they will be very helpful for quilters who would like to make an entry.

uh oh. Does this mean we should not use traditional batting? Also when we quilt them, I assume that we don't want the quilt lines showing on the back since then it wouldn't be a postcard, right? Can you tell I never did one of these before?

Looking forward to seeing all those beautiful post cards!! I've never made one but I hope to get some inspiration from all the entries!!

If you are doing a quilted post card, you can use some muslin for the backing of your sandwich. Then you will attach your cardstock/index card/ to the back then sew on your binding. Just be careful not to make your stitch to close together otherwise will shred the card stock. Also, you could sew on your binding and finish your little quilt, then do a blanket stitch to attache the post card onto the little quilted part and can discard the index card later and enjoy the fun quilt. Always options. You could always just glue the index card on the outside onto the back of your quilt. It is acceptable. the fun part of these is that you have so many wonderful options to choose from.

I made one and am contemplating another. In addition to gift tags, they make great tree ornaments!
