Besdes you can always use them as Christmas Cards!!

Rhonda 10-31-2012 04:29 PM

Hope to see lots of postcards in this contest!!! They would make terrific presents or great cards to make for holidays like Christmas Easter Thanksgiving Valentine's Day!! The sky is the limit people!!!

They would also make great gift tags!

gabdr 11-06-2012 07:41 AM

Where can I find blank postcards on line to print?

Rhonda 11-06-2012 09:43 AM

sorry I have no idea. You could search online for them. For the contest the postcards need to be quilted fabric ones

QuilterMomma 11-06-2012 10:35 AM

That being the case, Timtex is very helpful for the stiffness of the post card. Pentax works as well but not as stiff. It is in the interfacing section of the quilt store or Joanns. It is cut by the yard. Now if you don't want a real stiff post card, you can get the heavy wonder under and fuse it onto your fabirc getting a little bit of stiffness but will be pliable. Then you hand stitch on your index card for mailing or heavy card stock. Works.

Rhonda 11-06-2012 02:23 PM

Since I've never made one is there things I should know to allow? I guess I didn't know they use a paper or card stock base. Whatever is usual for making them is fine with me.

QuilterMomma 11-06-2012 03:34 PM

Here is one that I learned from:
http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...c_postcard.htm
another
http://www.dollyduo.com/Fabric%20Pos...structions.htm
Here is a tute I found on You Tube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC6-GyD0f6s

These help give ideas. I still like using the heavy timtex for the stability.

Rhonda 11-06-2012 03:52 PM

Thanks QM for the links. I am sure they will be very helpful for quilters who would like to make an entry.

JNCT14 11-07-2012 06:00 AM

uh oh. Does this mean we should not use traditional batting? Also when we quilt them, I assume that we don't want the quilt lines showing on the back since then it wouldn't be a postcard, right? Can you tell I never did one of these before?

Rhonda 11-08-2012 10:04 PM

Looking forward to seeing all those beautiful post cards!! I've never made one but I hope to get some inspiration from all the entries!!

If you are doing a quilted post card, you can use some muslin for the backing of your sandwich. Then you will attach your cardstock/index card/ to the back then sew on your binding. Just be careful not to make your stitch to close together otherwise will shred the card stock. Also, you could sew on your binding and finish your little quilt, then do a blanket stitch to attache the post card onto the little quilted part and can discard the index card later and enjoy the fun quilt. Always options. You could always just glue the index card on the outside onto the back of your quilt. It is acceptable. the fun part of these is that you have so many wonderful options to choose from.

BryeLynn 11-13-2012 06:55 AM

I would like to participate, but I am fairly new to this site, could someone give me direction? How do I sign up and what are the requirements?

Sapphire_Rae 11-25-2012 08:08 AM

This looks like sew much fun. I can't participate this time because i have to travel, but I am really looking forward to seeing all the postcards. I have heard of this, but never considered doing it...until now. I am putting this on my to-do list. (What a fun way to send Christmas cards!)

Go to the first post of this thread and all the rules are there. There aren't too many. All you need to do is make a fabric postcard and post pics to Patrice using her directions. They have to be sent to Patrice by email. You can use any style or any technique you like to make your postcard. BUT the last day to send them is this Wed!!

I remember reading advice from a member on the first page about how to add the paper part of the postcard.
If you have any questions just post them here and someone if not me will answer.

wraez 02-01-2013 08:49 AM

Who won? Are there photos posted of the entries?

Sorry I missed this, I LOVE to make fabric postcards! Will there be another contest in November 2013?

curious minds ....

Rhonda 02-01-2013 12:59 PM

You can see all of the contests here:

No I am not going to do any more contests unless there are enough people asking to do them. there was only one entry for Jan and I feel that we just don't have enough interest to keep them going.
