Hi everyone! Between moving, 3 surgeries, moving again, vacations, traveling to watch two of my grandchildren play softball
(one at Univ of Kentucky and one at St Louis University) and a few other sidelines, I am finally back. I love this forum and
will list my projects in a few days. Meanwhile, happy sewing to you all.

happylab 06-03-2023 02:16 PM

Welcome back jaydee3, Looking forward to your finished projects. The hot weather is a great time to stay inside and quilt.

Well, I got the QOV top quilted. Now working on quilting 3 baby tops for a friend. Then back to my projects. Yea, slowly making progress.

I’m sitting at my dining room table and watching the birds eat the bird seed together. In the last 5 minutes i have seen black birds, turtle doves, sparrows, and starlings drop by. In the morning I see a few cardinal, and robins searching for worms in the grass. It’s amazing to watch different bird species eating side by side. So relaxing.

Oh, it’s now time to push getting several of my ufo finished. I plan to finish the following by end of June.
(1) Labs going hunting = just needs squared and bind. (2) small chiefs quillow = needs pillow portion quilted and then sew pillow on to quilt. (3) lock-in 2020 = needs square & sew on binding. (4). Halloween 👻 quilt = need - borders sewn, quilted and bind. And lastly, (5) finish r/w/blk quilt = need to sew 3 blocks, sew squares together and sew on borders. Quilt and bind. Then it’s on to July projects. I have 11 days to do all of this.

WMUTeach 06-20-2023 04:03 PM

Happylab, you amaze me! I am wondering if your days are longer than 24 hours! Go for it and I wish you well!

happylab 07-01-2023 04:35 AM

Good morning everyone. Such a nice morning. We had overnight thunderstorms and the much needed rain.

FYI: Today is National UFO day. So let’s get working on, or finish a UFO, or a few ufo projects. I would like to see the finished UFOs.

Happy 4th of July weekend everyone.

happylab 08-01-2023 05:57 AM

Ok, I see we need a UFO challenge for this month. Let’s see if we can complete 2 UFO’s for the month of August. That gives us 31 days to get 2 off our list. Come on our ufo members, let’s get flying to complete those ufo’s. 😊!!!

petthefabric 08-01-2023 09:56 AM

I’m in. Great idea. I’m in need of motivation.

WMUTeach 08-01-2023 04:46 PM

Oh, happylab, you are funny! I am in! My current pile of unfinished projects aren't really UFO's. I will try to dig out a UFO or two to add to my pile. Interesting that the leader of my quilting group put out the same challenge! Great minds think alike I guess.

Come on everyone, jump in and let's finish some of our UFOs! Keep in mind that a finish makes more room for other projects, fabric and ..... UFO's Ha Ha Ha!

Rff1010 08-02-2023 12:59 AM

I'm going to put 2 on the August challenge for myself.
1) my nephew just needs a label and binding and
2) I have a QOV that I need to short out the backing, quilt and bind.

I've got some casual stitching that I want to finish so that the top is done and ready to quilt after I do those 2.

Mkotch 08-02-2023 02:24 AM

I've got two near completion. One needs a binding and the other needs me to finish quilting, add borders, and bind. I'm sure I can finish by the end of the month. Thanks for the challenge!

I finished someone else's UFO

Our Project Linus has a big giveaway table - in June, someone put 12 star blocks, the remaining fabric and the backing. Looked like a stack and wack that they got frustrated with because none of the points matched. I used their fabric for scrappy sashing, cornerstone, borders and corner border..

Our PL coordinator is doing a UFO challenge next month (your own or someone else). So I threw it on the longarm last night and quilted it up. Not super happy with the pattern, but done is better than perfect. Today will be binding day. Size 51 x 66.

I like to join in on all of the fun. The first part of this year has been crazy busy with a lot of family related commitments, but things have returned more to normal since the end of June. In between all of the family related things going on in my life, I was able to get four quilt projects completely finished, and have about 5 more ufos that I want to finish either this year or early 2024.
Happy Quilting. Hugs Kathryn

Gemm 08-06-2023 09:44 AM

Rff and Kathryn - any pictures to share? :) I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see these projects!!!

WMUTeach 08-06-2023 04:25 PM

Pictures please! It is so encouraging to see what other quilters are accomplishing. :)

Dedemac 08-06-2023 05:21 PM

Kathryn, welcome to the UFO Challenge and welcome to the Quilting Board.

Here's a little (54" x 60") quilt I made from an online swap. The blocks arrived last fall, and I finished putting it together in Dec. I quilted and bound it this week. It's going to a program for children entering foster care, along with several knitted hats. I have another long time UFO that I'm binding this week. Finally moving ahead!

WMUTeach 08-07-2023 04:32 AM

Oh, what a cute quilt. Cheery, happy and sweet. Terrific donation quilt!

So pretty and congrats on the finish! And another one is in binding; you are on a roll! Hugs!

Mkotch, what a beautiful quilt, and sure to be treasured!

These are the Valentine's Day projects that I finished back at the end of January. The first one is a table runner that I did from a free class last fall. It is called 4 Hearts for Valentine's. Originally the applique between the heart blocks was supposed to be holly berries and leaves for Christmas, but I decided I would add roses and make it for Valentine's Day. All of the free motion/ ruler work quilting was done with my Qnique 15 Pro that I have on a quilt frame, while the machine applique was stitched down using a regular sewing machine. The quilting design that I did in both the half and quarter square triangles is my very own.
The second Valentine project was from a free Moda Fabrics pattern. Instead of turning it into a table runner, I decided I would create a (4) block wallhanging and add borders to it. All of the free motion and ruler work quilting was by my Qnique 15 Pro that I have on a Q-Zone Hoop Frame.
Happy Quilting. Hugs Kathryn

This is my most recent quilt that I finished last month. It was a free pattern from Alderwood Studios. This is the largest quilt project I have quilted on my quilt frame. The entire free motion/ ruler work quilting in the center of the quilt along with the ruler work in the outer border is my very own designs. I made a few mistakes in the quilting, but with more practice I'm getting better at it. After I finished taking pictures of the quilt, my cat Toby decided he really liked it and took a nap on it for a little while. Both him and my other cat Wendy are my sewing/quilting fur babies.
Happy Quilting. Hugs Kathryn

Those are lovely - way to go, Kathryn! I love the blue one especially - although there's a lot going on, I find it a very calming pattern. :-)

happylab 08-07-2023 06:05 PM

Very pretty finish Kathryn, Yea on your 2 UFO completions.

WMUTeach 08-08-2023 04:12 PM

Kathryn, three cheers for you on two finishes! Ah, a deep breath and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.

SueZQ from MN 08-08-2023 04:47 PM

The blue one is my favorite and clearly has your fur baby's stamp of approval. Great job.

KathrynBock242 08-13-2023 05:11 AM

Thank you all for your lovely comments on my two quilt finishes. Been busy this past week finishing up two cloth dolls for Halloween ( we each made a Dearly Departed doll from an Arley Berryhill pattern) along with starting on the rest of my fall cleaning so I can put up our Fall/Halloween decorations. Yesterday took a break from the fall cleaning, and started working on one of my applique quilt ufos. Happy Quilting. Hugs Kathryn

I finished a couple more quilts this month. I've been working on the one with vintage hankies since the winter. The scrappy rainbow log cabin I made over a week after our town had a terrible flood. We live uphill from the flooded area so we weren't directly affected. I was burning nervous energy anyway. I put the bindings on both yesterday and took two (blurry) pictures.

WMUTeach 08-15-2023 04:28 PM

Two more out the door! Yea! Now the rest of us need to join in with just one UFO this month!. I am adding the binding to one tonight. Fingers crossed to get it done by the weekend.

joe'smom 08-16-2023 06:47 AM

Mkotch, great finishes!

Gemm 08-16-2023 07:33 AM

Love that rainbow log cabin! I've been sorting through my scrap boxes and am thinking I might be able to do something similar with some of the narrower strips I have. What was your block size? Thanks for the inspiration!

Mkotch 08-17-2023 02:12 AM

The rainbow log cabin blocks I made were all 6.5" unfinished. I just put together a small (36") quilt top made of only neutral strips - it looks really nice. Will post a photo when I get finished.

happylab 08-26-2023 07:09 AM

Mkotch, great finish, very pretty.

I will have 3-4 UFO’s completed by end of month. All I need to do is sew binding on them this weekend.

have a great weekend everyone.

When I have bits of leftover fabric I make 4.5" half square triangles. 1.5 years ago I put together these "Depression blocks" (16" - there are 4 in each quilt top). This weekend I threw borders on. Cute little scrappy happy for project Linus. Unfortunately because we are painting the quilting room my longarm is currently hiding under drop cloth. But it will get finished soon...

WMUTeach 09-25-2023 05:19 PM

Love those HSTs, Rff. I make piles of them too and put them in a simple barn raising pattern and away I go. Fell in love with the HST ever so long ago and just can't resist making more. Lovely PL options.

Hello all. I just joined the boards and have plenty of UFO's. It's going to be a couple weeks most likely before I can post anything, as I won't be able to work on quilting for a bit. I'm excited to have you all here and hope the accountability will keep me going and focused. I have too many UFO's to list. The first ones I want to work on:

1) Boggle quilt-for a friend. Her favorite game is boggle, so I made a quilt to look like a boggle board and it has her and her hubby's and kids names hidden. I'll post a pic, maybe you can find her name, Jennifer. The flimsy is done. I need to make the sandwich, quilt, and bind it.

2) In memory of my grandma quilt- a 100 block sampler where I've used fabrics that remind me of my grandma. I have a little over 50 blocks done.

3)A wanna be and very, very simplified quilt based on Jane Austen's coverlet. It uses a panel and I've never used a quilt panel.

WMUTeach 10-05-2023 04:27 PM

Anchoredhope, you have a plan and that will help. Just keep pressing through the days, the weeks and keep nudging the projects toward the finish line. It isn't a race but the act of moving ahead that will move the UFOs out the door or at least off our list before you know it.

anchoredhope 10-05-2023 06:25 PM

Thank you so much for your encouragement WMUTeach!!

joe'smom 10-05-2023 06:47 PM

Welcome, anchoredhope. I look forward to seeing your finishes!

Gemm 10-05-2023 08:13 PM

Those are some ambitious goals but really meaningful quilts - I'm sure you will enjoy the journey to completing them!
