This recipe is great for canned peaches.

Peach Cobbler

1 stick of butter
1 c. self-rising flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 large can sliced peaches in heavy syrup

preheat oven to 350º.
Melt butter in 9" x 13" dish* in oven. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and milk. Pour mixture on top of melted butter in skillet. Pour peaches on top of mixture. Bake until top is golden brown.
You can add cinnamon and vanilla if desired.
*I use a large cast iron skillet.

Do you drain the peaches before you add them?

Add syrup and all. The oven temp can be up to 425º for faster browning but I like the slow baking in the cast iron. I sprinkle cinnamon sugar into the butter after it's melted, it forms a nice crusty look an flavor. Don't stir the peaches in the mixture, just pour on top evenly.

That's the same recipe I always use! My momma taught me how to make it. She also used to put some nice, warm cobbler in a bowl, pour on a bit of milk then grate on a smidgen of fresh nutmeg! YUMMY!!!!  I've used other fruits, too. Apple pie filling is really good as is cherry.

When you say canned peaches, do you mean home canned or cans from the grocery store, like pie filling?

I'm not sure what she uses, but when I've made it, I've used both canned peaches from the store and home-canned peaches. I've also used peach pie filling, too. Either way, it's fast and yummy!

Could you use all purpose flour instead of self-rising?

How large of an iron skillet do you use?
