My grandmother made hers like this:

1 pound lean ground meat
1 tsp. Horseradish
Salt & pepper
Garlic powder
Dash of Worcestershire sauce
Packet of Lipton onion soup
Evaporated milk. Mix it all up. And top it with either catsup or picante sauce. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.

For fun she buried a couple of hard boiled eggs in her loaf. Looked so pretty when it was sliced and it delighted my children.

Meatloaf

1-1/2 pounds lean Hamburger
1 pound lean Sausage
2 Eggs
1 Carrot chopped fine
1 medium Onion, chopped
1/4 cup Ketchup
1/2 cup Milk
1 cup Oatmeal
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Ground Pepper
2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning (Thyme, Marjoram, Rosemary combination)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, combine ingredients. Mix well. Place in a 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.

Bake for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Let cool for 15 minutes.

Carefully turn loaf out onto a serving platter.

Substitute 1/3 of the beef with lean ground pork and also use oats and lots of liquids.

This is the one I’ve used for years...Double Cheese Meatloaf. I substitute Pepperidge Farm original stuffing mix for the bread crumbs and I also add a half (15 oz) can of fire roasted tomatoes (Hunts). I use 1 pound ground beef and 1/2 pound of Jimmy Dean original sausage... It is a crowd pleaser.

I use a basic meatloaf recipe but use half ground beef and half ground pork. Found a recipe that calls for spreading out the meat mixture and adding a layer of sauteed onions, mushrooms, gravy, peppers and shredded cheese, then roll it all up and bake. 15 minutes before its done you pull it out and add the remaining sauteed onion mixture to the top and more shredded cheese and finish baking. Came out great for me the 1st time and it was for guests too. I do add worstershire to my meat mixture as I fine that always give a little more spunk to the taste.

You can bake it in a hollowed-out pumpkin or in red peppers to make it fancy for company. I've found that a whole red pepper is a pretty large serving, so I will cut them in half lengthwise. A mixture of ketchup and brown sugar is a good topping. I actually use chili sauce instead of ketchup.

I use the meatloaf recipe that was on the Quaker oatmeal box when I was a young girl. It's good basic recipe. Just google Quaker oatmeal meat loaf or Quaker.com

I put diced celery, and a can of mashed carrots. I also put one extra egg to make it hold together more.

I use the recipe on the Liptons onion soup box and use Panko bread crumbs for the filler. My family loves it. If I try and embellish they complain.

I can recommend the America's Test Kitchen Mushroom meatloaf. There is a little more work to it, but it is a great flavored meatloaf.

I also like Ina Gartner's turkey meatloaf. It makes a huge loaf and is quite delicious and would be good for company any time.
