Default Hot Cereal, Mixing Up the Grains

I don't eat hot cereal for breakfast very often, mostly because I find it kind of boring and my husband won't touch it. However, I've started moving away from just oatmeal and mixing in other grains. I like it a lot better and it's far more interesting. My mix today is:

old fashioned rolled oats
buckwheat
a little wheat germ
chia seeds
raisins

I put them all in together in a pot with some water and cooked them until the buckwheat was tender. I added a some stevia-monk fruit sweetener, a dash of cinnamon and a very, small, pat of butter in the center of my bowl. Pretty good!

My hutritionist had be eating buckwheat and also teff. I wasn't a fan of teff but mixing it up might work.

I make quick oatmeal, add chopped apples and raisins while it is cooking (I keep the diced apples in the freezer) and after it's done I add chopped walnuts, wheat germ, and ground flax seed. Top with almond milk.

After my steel cut oats are done (I make them in the Instant Pot so I don't have to watch or stir) I add some of that vanilla bliss coffee creamer. Just a little bit.

I throw some frozen blueberries into the microwave to defrost while I am cooking up the old fashioned oatmeal in a pot on the stove, then I toss in the blueberries and a little plain cinnamon and some half and half. nummy. Tying to cut out the sugar and butter.

mmmmm buckwheat ....
I enjoy it as a supper side, but have never tried it in porridge.
Must.Try.That!!

I make big batches of oatmeal porridge using milk. Then add-in brown sugar or maple syrup and whatever combo of frozen fruit, raisins, nuts, cinnamon that suits my fancy at the time. Freeze in single portions. Simply zap in the microwave in its frozen and presto ..... deliciousness without all the work and icky pot to clean!!!

I make mine using the ingredients tropic uses but I also add flax seed, dried cranberries, walnuts, bananas or any other fresh fruit I have. If I have any left over sausage, or ham left over from a previous meal I throw that in. My husband jokes that our oatmeal is like a soup pot, everything left over goes into it.
