Question Need idea - snack to share at a party

Hi, Quilting friends! I've been invited to a friend's house to play cards this weekend, and need to bring a snack to share. So far there are only 5 of us, so I don't need to make massive amounts of food.

I'm looking for suggestions - tried and true recipes - favorites that you take to gatherings.

Thanks!

For "very special" occasions, I make Sonja Heine cookies (aka thumbprints). The recipe is one my mom would make for tea party get-togethers.

1 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs (separated)
2 cups flour
2 tsp vanilla (other recipes I found online don't have the vanilla)
Jam or jelly
Chopped walnuts (between 1 and 2 cups)

Set aside egg whites, jam and walnuts.

Mix butter, brown sugar, egg yolks, flour, and vanilla.

Make one inch balls and dip in egg whites, then roll in chopped walnuts.

Bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.

Remove from oven. Indent center with a teaspoon and fill indentation with jelly. Bake 15 more minutes.

You can halve the batch.

Other "hits" with my quilting group...

Beer bread (can share a recipe if you want).
Mixed nuts
Chex mix (I follow the original recipe in the oven, and add cheez-its)
Fresh bread with homemade jam
Fruit-- grapes, cherries, cubed watermelon (whatever is in season)

My sweet go to is a batch of cranberry, white chocolate chip, oatmeal cookies. You can find the recipe at the ocean spray site but I've found cheaper dried cranberries at Walgreen's and other places. Everyone seems to love them. They are not too sweet. The only thing I add to the recipe is a splash of vanilla. I kind of eyeball the chips and cranberries when I add them.

Crackers/cheese or dip/crackers or dip/veggies. I used to buy baby carrots, now buy carrot slices. We like them better.

I play Mah Jongg with a group of ladies. Things we like....hummus with pita bread/chips and/or carrots; brownies, fresh fruit; veggies and Buttermilk Ranch dip; peanuts; cashews; chip mixes; chocolate chip cookies. If you are snacking while you are playing, then you want something dry and not sticky. If you are taking a break to eat, then anything goes.

Anything chocolate! Brownies, little candy bars, cookies.
If you want something more appetizer-like, check your supermarket freezer section for miniquiches and/or other hors d'oeuvres.

A cheese board with salami, olives and dried figs or dates (and crackers) is always popular amongst my friends.

How fancy do these snacks need to be? I sometimes simply boil eggs and slice in half for presentation like deviled eggs but without deviling. Not as messy but low cal and tasty. You could embellish them a bit with parsley or something else, if desired.

Carmel corn? Or popcorn sprinkled with cheddar powder found in the popcorn section of the grocery store.
