Air fryer advice

I am considering the purchase of an air fryer. If you own one, will you share your thoughts? Brand, ease of use (and cleaning!), cooking results, etc. Best size for two adults. TIA

I have a ninja, and I love it! I cook for myself, I cook two meals at a time, one for now and next day, I pour off grease and run hot water into basket add a dash of dawn and after I eat it is ready to dump wash water and rinse

We started with a basket type and it was amazing...but then saw this one on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/Instant-Pot-V...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

It is amazing. I can dehydrate, do fries in the basket, rotisserie a chicken. I love them. The best asparagus. Salmon pattys, bacon, Oh My!!!

We have the Power Air Fryer Pro. One of the ones on the infomercial. Love it, worth every penny. I would recommend getting one that has racks instead of a basket. We are a family of 3 and it's perfect for a meal. The only thing I would do different it get the larger one. DH likes to use the rotisserie and it's hard to find a chicken that small to roast. When this one decides to stop. I'll probably look into Emeril's. It looks great too and looks like a larger toaster oven.

My friend has had the Emeril one for a couple of weeks. She loves it and says it does the fries really well.

I just went to look and see if I could find the brand name on mine. My SIL got it for me for Christmas several years ago and I use it frequently. I believe she purchased it via QVC. It is the best for fish IMHO. I love the flavors I get when using it . Great for simple fare or more elaborate fare. I can adapt just about any baked or fried meal to the Air Fryer. It is easy to clean and I can store it away easily. I don't leave it out on my counter top. I am sure you will love it. My daughter has one and her teen age son uses it everyday for french fries or other hot snacks.

SunQuilts 07-02-2020 07:22 AM

This is so helpful. I am not sure we would use all the features on some of the ones mentioned. I think we would use one of the simpler ones more. But I am looking at all of the recommendations. So please do keep them coming. Juliasb, if you find the brand, please let us know? Thanks

After my bypass we started looking for something that would allow me to fry foods but use less oil. We found the Power AirFryer XL at Sam's. It gets used all the time, and especially does french fries very well. I love country fried steak, but couldn't seem to get it to come out the way it does when frying in oil. Finally ended up preheating the thing for 10 minutes and then using a spray botle to put olive oil on the breaded meat and lo and behold it turned out exactly the same as if it had been fried in oil. For those of us trying to watch what we eat, they are fantastic.

I have had the Ninja, it lasted about a year and then died. My friends all have different brands so I got their pros and cons. I bought a Faberware manual control with basket. Serves 2-3. The reviews were great. It is very quiet and heats hotter faster then the Ninja and has a better fan. It was on sale at Walmart for $60 and I bought another one to have when this one goes out. We love it. I wrap sandwiches in foil and in a few minutes I have hot melt sandwiches with toasted bread. DH said the pork chops cooked in it is the best he has had. The grands love chicken nuggets and 5 min from frozen to crispy. This size is great for DH and me. It doesn't take up much room on the countertop and easy to clean the basket insert.

My spare air fryer.

You all are being so helpful! I have another question please. Although a small one would be sufficient most of the time, I would like a larger capacity on occasion. My question is whether cooking small amounts in a large fryer still gets good results. What has been your experience?

toverly 07-02-2020 12:27 PM

Yes, the more room between items, the faster and crisper mine cooks. I also love it because it doesn't heat up the kitchen in the summer like turning on the oven heats.

I have a friend who just loves her air fryer. She has a rare medical condition and her medications give her a very restricted diet. One of her few joys of allowed foods was french fries, but when she had her gall bladder taken out, she just couldn't tolerate any fat at all. Tada, enter air fryer. As she says, iced tea and french fries may not sound like a banquet, but even less so without the fries.

She has a large family sized unit but is very happy when she makes a single serving. Well... maybe on my low carb diet more than a single serving, but less than a party of five!

I got mine from Walmart. It cooks good but convenient to get out and use often. I need to strive to use it more often. It is a Farbarware. Easy to clean and cheaper than most. My Grandson uses theirs real often for french fries, toasted ravioli and tatar tots and pizza rolls. He is tall and 18.

I have had a Cosori Air Fryer for quite a few months now. I love it. I thought I would never want an air fryer but decided to try one after following Brandi of staysnatched.com. I have the 5.6 size. I would not want one any smaller and it is just the two of us. I have done Cornish hens, a small baking chicken, and use it especially because I like roasted vegetables. I would not want to give it up now. So easy to use and to clean.

I have the NuWave oven which is probably the original air-fryer and I love it! I want it to die so I can get a new multipurpose air fryer but while this works I will still use it. (The NuWave will cook meat from frozen which I am not sure the new ones do.) But 2 words of advice - get the largest one you can afford because you can cook a little in a large one but you can't cook an lot in a small one. And buy the Evo sprayer - you can spritz on 1/4 teaspoon of oil on certain foods and you would swear they were deep fried.
I like to cook fish in it because it does not make the house smell. I can cook my french fries with the fish or other food. And I recently learned the joy of french bread pizza in the oven and it is done in 9 minutes. A friend asked me if I ever reheated pizza in it and = it worked great for that too. (No mushy crust.) She has one too. The negative is the size - but they came out with another one that cooks in 2 directions.

I bought a "cheapie" at the Dollar Store just to see if I liked it. Figured if I did I would get a better one. This little 30 dollar one works well enough I haven't even bothered to replace it. Mine is small, just me using it, and it's perfect and so easy to clean.

Onebyone 07-03-2020 05:46 AM

The food in the basket can be layered. Just stop half way and turn over as suggested for all meats. I can cook one or six pork chops in my Faberware. I experiment all the time with different foods cooked it it. I use an instant meat thermometer for all meats. I was thinking of trying peach halves and pineapple slices next. I loved roasted fruit. I may get a larger one but it really comes to counter top space and how it looks sitting out all the time it being bigger.

SunQuilts 07-03-2020 07:38 AM

Well, thanks to all of the great comments I decided to order an air fryer I looked at every brand mentioned, as well as some that I found online, and chose a Corsori. Several reasons why: good reviews, warranty longer than many fryers, price, and (really good to hear) the customer service dept was described as very responsive and helpful. I ordered the large one and I am looking forward to learning how to use it. Thanks again. Now, favorite recipe recommendations?

I probably cook fish the most in mine. I'm on Weight Watchers. So simple, I put the fish on parchment paper and cut around about 1/2 an inch all around. I cook 3 at a time on racks. I sprinkle Paul Prudhomme's Seafood Magic on them, press the fish button and voila. Great fish. DS has cooked homemade potato chips, uses the mandolin. He brushes on olive oil, adds seasoning and cooks till crispy.

My husband bought an Instapot and loves it. He said it's easy to clean. He's having a ball with it.

I love my 3 Instant
Pots. They cook different than an air fryer. I got the air fryer lid and it works. I just don’t think of it most of the time.

Love it. Bought 2 for us and one for my daughter at college.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGaO1XK7NzA

I also got an Instant Pot and also purchased the Instant Pot Air Fryer lid to go with it. I actually haven't used either yet....hoping to do so soon. I have an old crock pot down in the basement which I haven't used for about 20 years....so I thought it best to get something new now that I am doing all my own cooking and my stove is also about 20 years old.

I have the power air fryer with 3 racks got it about 2 years ago. It is wonderful. Makes wonderful air fried okra. I buy frozen spray with olive oil and you need no ketchup. I also make toast, fish, cookies, wonderful crunchy fries, tator tots, warm up all kinds of things. Wal-Mart has some great small cookie sheet pans that fit right in. It also does not heat up the kitchen like the oven. Or even as much as my toaster oven. It does have rotating basket and the shishka bob attachment and the chicken rotissery. These can be a little messy I mainly just use the shelves. Wonderful machine.

Stillh20. Can I come to your house? I love fried okra!
