All Those Vegan Burgers Out There!

One of the biggest food crazes this last year has been the vegan burger. Sure, Morning Star Farms has been selling them for years, but now the vegan burger has become really, really big business. The Beyond Meat company just went public yesterday on the stock market. The Impossible Burger is now available at Burger King and the Giants' stadium (yes!!!) They're all vying for the comsumer's dollar.

Personally, I don't mind that at all. I've been eating at least one vegan burger per week for the last 10 years and I love them. I think that it's one of my favorite foods. My go to brand is Field Roast, (with a slice of Field Roast Chao, catsup, vegan mayo, pickles, grilled onions and a splash of mustard on top.) Field Roast is a small company and I've not heard of any plans for them to go public. I hope that they don't get swallowed up by the other guys.

I also make my own burger patties from time to time, using a seitan recipe. They're pretty good too, but take some effort in the kitchen. What's your favorite vegan burger out there?

I'm with Tartan and want beef in my burger. It's great that everyone has choices in their daily menu.

I second this! Either a meat burger, or no burger.

I'm sure the vegan ones taste okay, just not for me, and certainly not for my hubby! He would probably be caught dead rather than eat a vegan burger, lol!

I’m a farm raised girl and we ate good old beef, pork or chicken every day. Turkey, goose or duck on Holidays. Never had a vegan burger, but I’ll try one someday.

Totally Beef Burger, all the way for me!

What I don't get is why do they call it "vegan burger"??
....... when there is no burger in it, and as a vegan/vegetarian that they are against burger and meats.

Call it whatever you want but do not use the word burger!

I was a vegetarian myself in my younger years before I became more comfortable being an omnivore. My hubby has always been a carnivore even before he discovered keto. But my son and dear daughter in law are full vegan which always complicates the holidays a bit.

Son is 30 now, went vegetarian about 12 years back (they've been full vegan about 3 years now) so I've had a lot of the different offerings over the years. Some are definitely better than others. When I was vegetarian I didn't care for analogs (term for foods meant to look/taste/replace meat) and the technologies of living in Alaska during the 70s probably didn't help. But one of our favorite places now is a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant run by a buddhist nun. Even my hubby would swear many of the dishes you would just never know it wasn't meat.

I wouldn't turn one down if it were offered as the only meal choice, but, my first choice would be meat. Some of them are tasty, but, as a completely separate thing. Not as a burger.

My SIL is vegan, which makes it hard for me to cook for him. I eat the vegan dishes he prepares, and they are good, but I feel like I have only eaten from one food group. The hardest part of the vegan diet for me is not eating any dairy products. I hate fake dairy substitutes. I can do without meat, but not fish. We eat a ton of fish.
