Anyone know what Grandma Did?
When I was little, grandma always made this stuff with what I think was whipping cream, diced apples with their skins on, chopped walnuts. More than that I can't say. Any ideas what I need to do to make it again. It was an everyday type item, not a holiday food. But I never saw what else she did to it and I'm craving some food memories of her. Thanks

Maybe you're thinking of ambrosia. That has whipped cream and diced apples in it. I don't remember what other ingredients it has, but if you look it up, you should find a recipe for it. Good luck.

Sure it wasn't Mayo she used? It might have been Waldorf salad.

I think she was doing her own version of ambrosia. I just looked up the recipe and fromt what i can see, the only thing i was missing was the sugar - I know she beat the cream. and added the fruit. I wasn't sure about vanilla or anything more. Going to give it a shot for dinner tonight. Thanks for your help.

My family made it also with walnuts , mandarin oranges and a few grapes and coconut.

I am so glad you asked the question. Ambrosia and Waldorf Salad are memories for me too, but for the life of me I could not bring up the descriptive titles. We made them often and enjoyed them. As I cannot eat fresh fruit now I will enjoy the memory of both dishes and my Mother preparing them with some help from her teenage daughters. Those were special additions to a meal.

Yummy all these sound good. For me instead of mayo I would use yogart
