Apple crisp

I bought a can of apple pie filling by mistake. I have never made a pie & reall don't want to. Can I use this to make an apple crisp. Any ideas.

I say go for it! The pie filling already has sugar and seasonings added, so all you need is the topping. Yummmmmm!!!

I like my apple crisp to have more pieces of apples than a pie filling does but I do not see any reason why you couldn't use it. You would reduce the cooking time to cook just the topping because the pie filling is already cooked. You could also use it for the bottom of apple cobbler since it typically has a juicier bottom under the more cake like topping. You could also buy the pre-made tenderflake tart tins and fill them and bake until golden.

You could make a "dump cake." Put the filling in a 13x9 cake pan, sprinkle a cake mix over the top (spice would be good). Slice 2 sticks of butter into 16 slices and arrange them evenly. Add chopped nuts. Bake 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes. I like this with canned peaches, use a large can.

I make apple crisp all the time. put in a small dish and add the topping bake till golden brown(350 oven ). you can serve with a little whipped cream if you want.

topping:

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional )

If I make two cans just use a bigger dish and double the topping

You can make apple cobbler. Real simple, just empty apple pie filling into pie dish check Bisquick box for making dumplings. Use to do this when children were small and time was short. I used apple, cherry and blueberry.Serve with whip cream if you have. Still do it today as it makes a quick sweet.

I make the dump cake with 1 can crushed pineapple and 2 cans cherry pie filling. I just use 1/3 pkg. cake mix and freeze the rest for another dump cake later.

I prebake a pie crust for 8-9 min., put in the pie filling and then the topping and bake for 25 min. more with tin foil tented over it. Then 5 min. uncovered. Love, love them.
And for lovers of this kindof thing, Comstock has a carmel apple pie filling that is SOOoooooooooooo good. E-1 should try it. glenda

Yes, you can, but I like more apples and less sugar than the pie filling has, but I like the flavor and the consistency of the pie filling. I use the pie filling and three or four fresh apples and more cinnamon for my crisp. Oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and real butter for the top. Yummy!
