Apple crisp
Does anyone have a "good old" recipe for apple crisp???
thanks bigsky |
from Quaker Oats
4 cups apples sliced in dish combine: 1/3 cup flour 1 cup oats 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/3 cup melted butter sprinke over apples bake 375 degrees for 30 minutes or till apples are tender. serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream. I use an 8" or 9" square pan (double the topping for a 10" X 13" pan) |
As I have canned too much chunky apple sauce for one person to eat in a timely manner I've been using it for Apple Crisp. A friend gave this recipe to me and I've altered it to use up what I have in my pantry.
1 qt of chunky applesauce (very chunky) or 4 cups of freshly peeled and sliced apples (your variety choice) 1/3 cup of flour (I've changed it to 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup oatmeal 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar 1/8 cup of white sugar 1/2 stick of butter (not softened) 1/4 cup coconut (optional) Blend all but apples with one of those chopper type tools until you have the butter chopped and blended with the rest of the ingredients. Spray 8 x 8 pan with Pam or butter (your preference). Add apples to the bottom of the dish, I add Craisins over my apples, then spread the flour mixture over the apple evenly. I add chopped walnuts over the flour mixture. Bake for 1hr at 350. I love to nuke my dessert, then add a dopple of ice cream over it to melt while I eat it. |
Than you for the prompt response for Apple Crisp they are both sounding GOOD.Keepers.

Recently I told of a mix I found at Dollar Tree called "Apple Crisp Mix" by Loretta
Grandma's recipe::: 6-8 med to large apples 6 tbsp softened butter 350 degrees Mix thoroughly til blended.....apples at bottom of ungreased 8" sq pan Sprinkle crisp mix over apples and bake 20-30 min Instead of fresh apples, I used a can of Apple fillings Serve with whip cream or ice cream |
All of the above, but our favorite way to eat this desert is cherry crisp with chocolate ice cream....bad Diabetic! Lol!
you can use any fruit to do this by adjusting the seasoning, and using white sugar with some fruits, like cherries. Nutmeg is wonderful with peaches. |
Apple Crisp
1 cup oats 1 cup flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup shortening Mix to a crumble stage. Place apples (sauced or sliced) in bottom of baking dish. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and dot with butter. (Omit sugar if using applesauce.) Pat crust over tap of apples and bake for 10 minutes at 450, then 350 for 15 minutes. Then 15 minutes at 450. |

Apple Crisp is one of those things I don't use a recipe for - just wing it. Hard to screw it up!
