Best Wat To Peel Garlic!!!
|
That does seem pretty darned fast. I usually just smack it with the flat side of a knife to peel my cloves the skin comes right off. now I have to try that see if its faster and as efficient. thanks!
|
I just peeled about 4 cloves to put in my dutch oven along with a pork roast. I just smash them with the flat side of the knife and out they pop. My house smells wonderful right now. The roast is in the oven smothered in veggies and yeast rolls are rising on the stovetop.

Wonder how long she really shook those bowls? Has anyone tried it yet?

25-30 years ago I went to a tuperware or rubbermaid party, and got this, said to be a garlic peeler. I just stick the cloves in, roll it around, and it works. I have to separate the cloves though, I like this idea better

Oh, my gosh!!! THANK YOU!!!:thumbup:

Great video of Martha Stewart. Never thought to do garlic like that before. Thank you for sharing.

I thought it was a great idea too and your welcome :)

Thanks for sharing, it looks so easy, but I too wonder if she shook it for 10 minutes! I have one of those sleeve thingees, you can buy them cheap on eBay, and often use a garlic press or a knife.
I read in Prevention magazine that you should let the garlic rest for 10 minutes after smashing it before cooking it to get the health benefits from it. That allows the allicin to develop. Allicin is garlic's natural defense against attack, so beat it up and it gets defensive. Allicin helps prevent inflammation and is an anti-oxidant. Ok, just thought you'd like to know... :) |
Wow, I want to try this (I love cooking with garlic!), but I don't have two metal bowls the same size. :(
I would love to hear from someone who did give this a try though. If it works, it would be worth getting a couple of same-sized bowls. :) |
Suzzette , I love your puppy!!!!
I think you could also use plastic bowls and shake them .......give it a try..... it is the shaking back and forth that skins them.... |
Dang! I just came back from the store with a jar of minced. Oh well not going to use that much anyway. Beats smacking and you can put it into a Ziploc. and right into the fridge.
|
great!!!! will do
|
I heard this same tip on NPR radio show on my drive to work one morning last year...they said to use metal bowls...a few quick shakes and done. I haven't tried it myself.
|
I tried that (bowls) and also the plastic sleeve, I was underwhelmed with the results. My best tip, use OLD garlic, it peels really easy. My neighbor gave me her last-year's garlic that she still had when this year's crop came in. It practically peels itself.

I do the same as chasing hawk
|
The guy in this video says it takes less than 10 seconds of shaking! Can't wait to try it..

That is great...Thanks...

I tried the bowl method and yup, it works!!!! Thanks for sharing. Blessed are those who help make my job a bit easier.

After watching the video before my first post here. This video reminded me of the scene from the movie "The Help". Where the maid had the Lady of the house shake the chicken in the paper bag. :)

used to ceramic cereal bowls to test out good old Marthas method. Shook for 1 minute .. a head of garlic which I cut the top off and bottom and had pre removed the outer paper part of the garlic head.. got 5-6 really clean cloves. then four still needing me to whack with a knife. Ok whacking cloves with a knife is quick. easy and no bowls that I now heed to make sure are clean no one wants cereal tasting like garlic. ok not me at least :)

Good point on the cereal bowls. I prefer whacking the garlic with the knife. It's quick, easy and the garlic doesn't suffer. |
Same here brat! This looks faster and safer. I can't wait to try it.
