Hello all!

I am in need of some bread machine recipes. What are your favorites?

We have a Hostess wholesaler nearby where we can buy normal sandwich bread for very cheap. What are your favorite flavored breads?

The book that came with the machine gave a recipe for raisin bread...what do you like?

pocoellie 02-23-2009 06:46 PM

We like the wheat, and the ones with nuts. Haven't tried the sourdough. If you want some recipes, I can email/snail mail to you.

mpeters1200 02-23-2009 07:09 PM

That would be great. I'll pm you my addy.

I make a great cheddar bread, but not sure how it would adapt to a breadmaker since it raises three times. Will see if I can dig it out tomorrow. I like oat bread, too.

My machine's basic setting raises 3 times too. But I don't know how it would work in a machine.

Here's a bunch, and you can read the reviews by those that have tried the recipes.

I have a bread machine and have tried to use it less than 10 times. The reason for the small # of uses is because the bread always comes out hard as a rock and isn't very good. I follow the instructions very closely! :( The only luck I have had is when I've tried the bread machine mix in a box. The only brand/kind I can find is a sour dough mix, and it may be Krusteez brand?? It works, but the crust still gets pretty hard. I have tried all different kinds/types of flour, etc.

Buttercream-are you high altitude? When I made the first loaf here, it turned out like a rock, then I started reading the book again, because we had tried these recipes before and they turned out fine. If that's not the case for you, I don't know what the problem could be.

You might try using the machine to get it ready to bake, then putting it on a pan and making it in your over. I have done that successfully in the past.

Buttercream, try to change the setting. Mine has a light, medium & dark. I usually bake everything on the light setting so it doesn't make the crust too brown or hard. See if that helps. I have some really good recipes, I'll try & look up for you.

Hey mpeters1200 pm me your address & I'll sent you some . I think I have about 5 breadmachine cookbooks. I have even adapted some regular ones to machine.

Can everyone just post their recipes here for us all to enjoy? Or isn't that possible?

I have a DELICIOUS recipe for cinnamon rolls. They are the Cinnabon Clones. If you want, email me at [email protected]

No, I've never had trouble with anything else.

Yes, mine has the different settings. I've tried baking on low or light and it still does the rock thing.

I second that motion!

purplemem 02-27-2009 08:35 AM

I'd like some recipes, too! I don't use mine much either, and I would like to. I use the Krusteez mixes with success, most of the time. If the mix is old...well...then it doesn't rise and it is AWFUL. :D

I just had a thought. It may be your water is too hard. Try using bottled water. When we lived in College Station, TX the water was so hard that you could cook pinto beans three days before they would get soft. See if that works.

Memalinda 02-27-2009 09:34 AM

I had a problem until I used bottled water because we have very hard water. It really makes a big differance.

1/4 C. butter, melted
1/4 c water
1/2 pkg Instant Vanilla Pudding (small bo)
1 c milk
1 egg beaten
1 T sugar
1/2 t salt
4 c bread flour (reuglar works fine)
2 1/2 t yeast
FILLING:
1/2 C BUTTER SOFTENED
1 c. brown sugar
2 t cinnamon
1/4 c chopped walnuts (optional)
1/4 c raisins (optional - I USE MORE)
FROSTING:
8 oz. cr cheese, softened
1/4 c. butter softened
1 1/2 t vanilla
1 1/2 t milk

Place ingredients in machine, following mftrs instructions. Set fo dough cycle.. After completion of cycle, remove from machine and roll out to approx 17 X 10 inch rectangle.
FILLING: Mix br. sugar and cinnamon together. Spread softened butter over dough, sprinkel sugar and cinn. mix over and nuts and/or raisins (or not). Roll tightly from long end, pinching edges sloxed when completely rolled. Slice dough into 1/2 (I do 1 inch) slices. Place into greased cake pans or cookie shee. Let rise until doubled. Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden (barely) DO NOT OVERBAKE.
Spread frosting on warm rolls. Best eaten when fresh, but you can zap them for 10 to 15 seconds in the micro, and they are almost as good as fresh.
ENJOY !!!!!

If your making from scratch - are you using fresh ingredients? Old baking powder can make bread/cookies too hard. Loved using my bread machine, but the mixer in the bottom kept getting "stuck" in the bread!!!

tlrnhi 02-27-2009 11:39 PM

Mine would get stuck in the bread, but now it's stuck permanently to the bottom. Can't get it out. Oh well......lol

Yes, I use fresh because I kept buying different things to try. My little mixer gets baked right in the loaf, then I have to dig it out of the rock!

Debra Mc 03-02-2009 08:25 PM

Hey tirnhi if the paddle is stuck, try putting some really hot water in it & let it soakor put some cooking oil on top & let sit, that might loosen it. My small machine got to where it wouldn't turn so I put some machine oil on it ( something that will withstand heat) & it works just fine. I think the paddle sticking is just part of the deal. Sometimes it will come out & sometimes it won't. I keep a pair of needle nose pliers near by to pull it out as soon as it comes out of the breadmaker that way I won't lose it.
