We have a lot of cabbage right now (about 40 heads) so I'm always looking for new ways to use it. I tried this recipe last night ... it was delicious!! Thought I would share with you all....

CABBAGE CASSEROLE

1 head cabbage
1 1/2 lb ground pork or ground beef (or ground turkey?)
1 med. onion, chopped
1 dash garlic powder
1 dash oregano
1 dash basil
1/4 C. rice
32 oz. spaghetti sauce
1 lb. mozzarella cheese, shredded

Cut up cabbage and boil 3 minutes (I cut the cabbage into quarters) and drain . Cook the rice. Brown the meat with the onions and drain. Add spices, spaghetti sauce and cooked rice to the browned meat. Layer the cabbage leaves, meat mixture and cheese like you would lasagna, top with more cheese. Cover and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Yummy! I made cabbage rolls a couple of weeks ago. Kind of like these: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/t...ipe/index.html My family always called them galumpkis.

The layered method sounds easier! And it has cheese! You can't go wrong with cheese. Thanks for the recipe!

Yeah, that does seem odd ... maybe a mis-print?

I love cabbage rolls and make my casserole in the microwave in the summer. or use crockpot to make the rolls. If using microwave. I precook the meats, onion, mushrooms, and bell pepprs, and garlic.. mix it with instant rice and sauce. put in baking dish, sprinkle with cheddar cheese and top with pre boiled chopped cabbage. pour a little more sauce on top and of course more cheddar. cook covered with vent holes on 1/2 power for about 25 min. No exact measuremnts just however you like. I make a pasta sauce of my own. Mary
