Have made cabbage rolls many times, but not in a Slo Cooker.Had fresh cabbage & made the same as always. After 4hrs on low,I could tell they were done.
The results were nasty.....over cooked gray cabbage & just an ugly looking dish.We tasted the filling....just to be sure the meat wasn't bad, but the filling was fine....tho very over cooked. I usually stick with soups/chili/beans in Slo Cooker & will not use it to make CR again! Have you ever had a SC disaster? |
Sometimes you need to decrease the amount of liquids and cooking times... I found this out after a few disasters myself :(

DH doesn't like many foods cooked in the SC.....but this was a disaster. It's back to *350 oven for me

Been there, done that! It happens when you experiment!

Not a slow cooker disaster, but a stir fry one. I tried to make a shrimp stirfry, and somehow it ended up looking like there was pieces of play doh in it. LOL, we ate pizza that night!

I have cabbage rolls cooking in my slow cooker right now. Only made them once before but they were good.
12 cabbage leaves ( I used about 9) Combine-1 lb. ground beef browned and drained 1 egg beaten 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1 cup cooked rice (I use less) Boil cabbage leaves in water 3 minutes and drain. Mix other ingredients together and put generous 1/4 cup in each cabbage leaf and roll up. Mix- 1- 8 oz. can tomato sauce, 1 Tablespoon brown sugar,1 Tablespoon lemon juice, and 1 teas. worcestershire sauce. Place rolls in crockpot, pour sauce over and cook on low 8 hrs. (I double the sauce) All slow cookers are different but a true slow cooker should cook slow. I have a Hamilton Beach programmable one and I love it. The one I had before cooked fast and I could never tell when anything would be done. Lori |
Thanks,Lori....your recipe is close to mine....I mix the meat like a meat loaf & don't cook it ahead.Have been wondering if my slo cooker could be the culprit....as some things cook too fast for my tastes. It's not programmable....maybe I need to look into a new one.

I've cooked my cabbage rolls in my slow cooker and in my oven. They come out tasting the same either way.

Thanks for the info.Has to be my slo cooker. I've thought for some time it gets hotter than it should when set on low. Gonna get rid of it & buy a new one.
