Cake From A Can
1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1 can tomato soup 1-1/2 cups flour 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 Tbsp hot water 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp each nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, allspice 1 cup raisins 1 cup walnuts Confectioner's sugar Mix shortening, sugar and soup. Add dry ingredients, mix thoroughly. Add raisins and walnuts. Pour into greased and floured 9x9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 50-60 minutes. Test with toothpick for doneness. When cool sprinkle with confectioner's sugar. |
Have you baked this? It sounds like something I had years ago with unfortunate results. As soon as I saw the can of soup, I winced from the memory.

The one I had tasted like moist chocolate cake, streaked with an acidic slime. A batch of us were guinea pigs for a friend's mom, and almost immediately afterwards, it all of it came back up. Everyone scattered to bathrooms and bushes. Nasty stuff!
That is why I asked whether she had tried the recipe. I remember it as sickening, and would not wish it on anyone. YUCK!!! |
