I need a recipe, by TONIGHT, for "caramel frosting" that uses caramels. Needs to frost a 9x13 cake. Lost mine.
Any recipes for the frosting would be greatly appreciated.

I found this recipe but have never tried it so can't tell you how it is. http://www.askyourneighbor.com/recipes/319.htm

That is a little different from what I thought I did. I thought I melted butter with the caramels but if I can't find a different one I will try that one.

Thanks

There used to be caramel frosting in a can that you could buy, if you're in a pinch. I'm not sure if they still make it though.

Thanks. I will have to check that out.

I tried to find another one with butter instead but it uses caramel topping instead of caramels. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/butt...0000001879940/

That is a good one!! I have used it several time, much easier than melting caramels!!

I think I will have to stop and get some carmel topping.
I have to help serve dinner to the Shriners tonight so will finish the cake when I get home.

Yes, I would probably finish the cake too and then pick another one up on the way. How kind of you to serve the shriners. What kind of cake did you make?

I'm back home and was given a recipe that one of the ladies had. It was the same one I had. I always double it.

1/2 C butter
1/2 C cream
1 C sugar
Cook to soft ball stage
Add 14 melted carmels
Beat until consistency to spread

Thanks for all your help

Mom's Caramel Icing

1/2 stick of butter or margarine
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup milk

Put all together in small saucepan and bring to a hard rolling boil.
Remove from heat at this point and add about 1/2 box confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar). Beat or stir with whisk till it loses its gloss and pour over cake while it is still fluid enuf to pour. Somtimes it will seem like it is little thin yet, but it sets up fast when it begins to cool.l

Look in your cookbooks for Penuche. I am out in the country & don't have any with me but basically you melt butter add brown sugar, bring to a boil tosort of caramilize it and then beat it powdered sugar until you get the right consistancy. Hhope you can find a recipe as it is delicious!

RAChhap, you got my curiousity so I had to look this up. Of course the first thing to come to mind when looking at the picture was to put chocolate chips on top of the frosting. Looks wonderful!
