Can anyone tell me where I can find a GOOD Cherry Almond Cookie recipie? This is hard to find, for me anyway. I am thinking of trying a sugar cookie dough, mincing mericheno (sp?) cherries, almond flavoring, with diced almonds. Has anyone done this or can you help? It reminds me of the Older Jergens Lotion. Todays is fine but nothing like the old originals! Well the smell reminds me of it, not the taste! HA!
I've looked on the net and can't find anything.

We have made a cherry almond bar-type cookie with maraschino cherries and coconut(when I was a kid/teen). They smell great and taste even better. We called them Cheery Cherry Bars.

I cut up those cherries once to put it cookies and even though I drained them and let them sit on a towel- they made the dough too wet to work with.

As I recall we drained the cherries and baked the shortbread cookie crust first for a bit before adding the toppings.

It is/.... haven't made them in some time... there is an egg/sugar mixture(as I recall) that you pour over the cherries/coconut etc. before baking a 2nd time...

This is my Great Gran's Cherry Cookies recipe. I make them for my dad at Christmas.

In large bowl combine:
1- 1/4 c. gran. white sugar
3/4 c. oil
2 large eggs
1 (14.5 oz.) can Red Tart Cherries. (NOT PIE FILLING!), drain and reserve liquid. (I mash mine a bit first.)
1/3 c. of reserved liquid
1/2 tsp. each vanilla and almond extract
In smaller bowl combine:
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt ( I use Kosher)
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
Stir the two combinations together. Will be "runny" like cake batter. (I chill my batter for about 1/2 an hour, but not necessary)Then drop by tablesoonfuls onto greased or parchment lined cookie sheets.
Bake at 375 for 12-15 minutes.
My kids talked me into adding chocolate chips and it was amazing then I added slivered almonds for myslef. They were delicious! These cookies are soft like cake.
Happy Baking.
