Chili

Do you make Chili with biscuits or boiled potatoes? I like either but I figure potatoes are healthier then biscuits😂

GingerK 06-02-2021 11:40 AM

Potatoes are not necessarily healthier. 2/3 cup of skin on boiled potatoes has 20 grams of carbs and only 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein. If you peel the potatoes, you lose a lot of the fiber.
A whole wheat roll (2 1/2 inch diameter) has 18 grams of carbs and almost 3 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protein.

Of course all those numbers change when you add butter or cheese or sour cream.

Neither, I make cornbread. Of course, I'm from the South. I have a friend from Iowa who eats hers with peanut butter sandwiches. Not with jelly, just peanut butter.

SusieQOH 06-02-2021 12:23 PM

Neither. Maybe it's a regional thing?
I like shredded cheddar on mine.

ptquilts 06-02-2021 12:46 PM

never heard of either with chili. Cornbread for the win!

bearisgray 06-02-2021 01:01 PM

Neither. Crackers for us. Cornbread is good, too.

Quiltwoman44 06-02-2021 01:22 PM

I serve it with corn chips and shredded cheddar. In the local schools, cinnamon rolls are served with chili.

ekuw 06-02-2021 02:14 PM

We eat our chili on rice https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png Tortilla chips on the side too.

Quiltwoman44 06-02-2021 03:52 PM

Oh I could do with rice. I like rice!

tranum 06-02-2021 04:07 PM

Our school cooks made chili & cinnamon rolls. No kidding, it was so good.

Cornbread, crackers, or Fritos for us with cheddar cheese grated on top. My kids liked it on spaghetti pasta too with garlic bread.

When my sons were young I made Kraft Dinner with chili. Haven’t had KD in years; that’s probably a good thing😄

sewbizgirl 06-02-2021 11:29 PM

Chili and rice here too.

Snooze2978 06-03-2021 04:53 AM

Neither, I used to make up a batch of seasoned crackers using oyster crackers, a packet of dry Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing, cup of oil, onion and garlic powders. Mixed and kept in the fridge so it wouldn't go rancid. Now I add some 4-cheese crackers I found at the grocery store.

In Cincinnati they eat chili on spaghetti!

Yes! I never heard of it till I moved to Ohio. And being Italian I was especially surprised lol.
I've never tried it nor do I wish to https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

I grew up eating saltine crackers with chili. Mom used to cut small cubes of Velveeta also. Now I add shredded cheddar and sour cream. DH grew up with cornbread and honey on chili. With or without toppings, it's a great comfort food.

zennia 06-04-2021 08:15 AM

chili with shredded cheese and crackers here. Never heard of potatoes with chili. Isn't that a lot of carbs?

SueZQ from MN 06-04-2021 11:12 AM

I grew up with buttered saltines, shredded cheese and occasionally sour cream. My best friend's mom served toasted cheese sandwiches with her chili, and it was good too. It's funny how we expect that the way we eat something is the same for everybody else.

sandilee 06-06-2021 05:36 PM

surprised no one has mentioned chili mac! I put elbow macaroni with my chili

Jingle 06-14-2021 02:12 PM

For a fast good meal I cook spaghetti warm canned chili with a can of tomatoes and mix together. Good with frozen garlic bread warmed up.
