OMG - I didn't know anyone else ate chocolate gravy. My MIL used to make chocolate and biscuits for her kids when they were growing up. Out of her 5 kids, I'm the only family member that makes it. When my kids were growing up, that was our Sunday breakfast. Here's the recipe I use:
1 cup sugar 3 level tablespoons cocoa 2 heaping tablespoons flour 2 to 2 1/2 cups milk |

When I was first married, I got a hankering for some chocolate gravy and biscuits. I didn't know how to make it so I cooked some Royal Chocolate Pudding until it was thick and ate that over my hot buttered biscuits! Purty good!

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/p...ipe/index.html Chocolate Gravy: 1/3 stick butter 2/3 cup sugar 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/3 cup cocoa 2 cups whole milk Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat. Mix in sugar, flour and cocoa. Slowly pour 1 cup of milk into the skillet and whisk well to remove lumps. Whisk in remaining milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick, being careful not to scorch. Serve hot over biscuits |
My Mamaw used to make chocolate gravy all the time. She was no recipe cook. She just did things, but the Paula Deen recipe posted above looks pretty much like what she did.

We had chocolate gravy when I was growing up. Brings back a lot of memories. I think Trisha Yearwood was making it on her show on the Food Network recently.

Well , being from the south I've got one. And its good . I take bacon grease add flour to make gravy thicker. Then I add Hershey's cocoa in the brown box . Mix it with sugar to taste, like you would for hot chocolate.Throw it in and add milk . Stir til thick as you want it. Make homemade biscuits and yummy. Sorry , I don't use measurments. I guess .

When we were little, our Mother made chocolate gravy, but in 'those' days, we called it "Sop." We are from the South, so go figure! We LOVED to sop bread pieces in it. For us kids, getting 'Sop' for breakfast was a real treat! I don't think my Mother used flour, and she used evaporated milk which makes it creamier and richer.

The first time I saw that (chocolate gravy) I just about choked! I was visiting for the weekend at my in-laws house, I walked into the kitchen and there she stood with the pan putting it over somebodys biscuit. I asked what that was she said chocolate gravy, it came to my mind chocolate with bacon grease, like you make gravy. I left the kitchen-nobody ever told me it was made like a pudding, I learned that later when I was older. I was about 18 then.

I had never heard of chocolate gravy until my daughter married her now husband. He loves chocolate gravy and talks about it all the time. They have been married for over 20 yrs but she or myself have never made it. I am not a Southern girl or Southern cook.

Thank all of you for the recipes. My grandmother used the bacon greese to make hers , I think the butter would be better for you . I have tried to make this but it never turns out like my grandma's, thanks so much for all the in-put . DottieBug
