Curious about the 3 2 1 cake

I was wondering if anyone else has made the 3 2 1 cake that was posted on here about a week ago? I mixed my angelfood cake mix with german chocolate and made it 2x came out perfect. Tried it again tonight and it didn't raise. Has anyone else had this problem?

prezzy 01-31-2012 07:12 PM

Did you tip it upside down to cool?

kathdavis 01-31-2012 07:26 PM

I made it once and it was great.

I haven't had a problem. Are you supposed to turn it upside down? I know you are supposed to let angel food cake cool this way but I never gave it a thought for this. I didn't, thought it was fine.

Great recipe! There was a Weight Watcher recipe using fat free brownie mix in the same way. Equally as good.

cjackaitlin 02-01-2012 05:29 AM

I've made this cake all week HAHA, and I haven't had any problems, I didn't know you had to turn it upside down either. Even DH likes it. mary

Sewze 02-01-2012 05:33 AM

I've made it several times and never thought to turn it upside down. Then it wouldn't matter 'cause I don't wait for it to cool anyway to eat it. Yummy! LOL

My DIL was telling me about this cake last Sunday. I bought the mixes yesterday and I can't wait to try it.

Hoarder 02-01-2012 07:13 AM

Cake??? Easy???? And I missed it!!! :( Please tell me more?

yngldy 02-01-2012 12:00 PM

I eat it too fast to let it cool also!!! I put fudge sauce in the middle before micro-ing. Makes an icing/sauce. Yummmmmmmmmmmm.

I've never had a problem either, and I also didn't know you had to turn it upside down. I've shared this recipe with many people and they all love it too. Can't imagine what would have caused it not to raise for you.

joy 02-01-2012 12:34 PM

I would love the recipe please...

Recipe is on this recipe thread under "3 2 1 cake" post 1/11/12

I have tried the 3 2 1 cake and don't really like it. It just isn't really like a cake. My grandkids eat it with ice cream, but wouldn't give my husband some - he wouldn't like it at all. Linda

I tried it with red velvet and did not enjoy the combination

prezzy 02-01-2012 07:30 PM

I make mine tonight, and i didnt wait for it to cool. I made mine with a gingerbread cake mix and it was very good.

squires1042 02-01-2012 09:32 PM

Several friends have made it and they rave about it.

Look under archive and find the recipe list. That is where you'll find it.

What is everyone's favorite for this recipe?

I meant to say is what is everyone's favorite flavor for this recipe?

Prettiptibbs 02-01-2012 10:33 PM

We tried and love it! It is just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth without going overboard. If it were any bigger, I would eat the whole thing!

Mix 1 box of angel food cake mix with 1 box of any other kind of cake mix (mix well) and store in air tight container. To make cake: mix 3 Tablespoons of cake mixture with 2 Tablespoons of water and put in microwave for 1 minute. Hence, 3, 2, 1 cake.

Enjoy!!

I made it with strawberry cake mix. I liked it especially when i added cool whip and fresh strawberries.

SueDor 02-02-2012 04:58 AM

Maybe you didn't mix it well enough. I had one that I didn't mix and it tasted awful. I do like mine with chocolate chips on the bottom.

"Cake in a Mug"
Our WW leader told us about the cake in the mug; same proportions . Mix the two cake mixes together, blend with wisk then measure 3 T. of cake mixture; abd 2 T. in a coffee mug and microwave 1 minute on high. It comes out looking like a little sponge cake. Very tasty.

Becky Mc 02-02-2012 07:02 AM

I have been making it for about 2 months on and off now and never had a problem with it not riseing. I used yellow cake mix and Angel Food made it for a girl friend of mine with fresh strawberries on top she loved it. I gave her some to take home to make for her granddaughter she sits for her alot she is going to call it the Magic Cake. LoL I want to try my next batch with Lemon cake that just sounds so good.

As for your problem maybe your mix settled try mixing it up again and see what happens.

PolkaBabe 02-02-2012 09:30 AM

I have made the 3-2-1 a number of time since it was here on the board. No problems here. I put mini chocolate chips on top after it has been mricowaved. Love it warm. Even took some frozen sweet dark cherries & cut them up & added to the batter. That was good too. Thank you for having posted the recipie. Had to share it with my sister-in-law, she plans to make for my brother to take along to work.

Can this cake be dumped out of the cup or is it just eaten in the cup? Do you grease the cup?

Yes, the cup is sprayed with cooking spray before you add the cake mix. Don't know if it would come out if you didn't.

barny 02-03-2012 01:54 PM

If you are making an angel cake from scratch you are supposed to turn it upside down to cool completely.

luci4 02-04-2012 05:39 PM

I don't believe the cup is sprayed with cooking oil.... Angel food does not require a greased pan.

Sewze 02-04-2012 08:33 PM

I make mine in a Grab It bowl with the recipe doubled, mix in a few fresh berries, some regular choc chips and in micro for 2 min. I do not spray or grease the bowl, do not turn upside down and do not let cool down. Put Cool Whip or cream on the top and eat warm.....yummy!

I made this with a spice cake mix, put some fresh blackberries in it and did not spray the bowl. I did turn it out onto a cake and let it cool slightly because my topping was melting. It did not stick to the bowl, I just ran a knife around the edge and it popped right out. It has a really fresh taste and is just enough. If you're thinking it's like a regular tasting cake, it is NOT. It's like a light sponge cake and is just enough for a nice dessert. My husband loves it as well and has his with a little ice cream. I can't wait to try other flavors but two boxes of mix is alot of cake! Thanks to whoever posted this to start with.

I don't. It did/does.

ragqueen03 03-26-2012 07:56 AM

I made a batch of this with the lemon cake mix and angel food cake mix. Really good but it does make a lot! Gave packages of it to family members. The other night my mother in law called and said she put some drained peaches in the bottom then mixed the cake mix up and poured it over the peaches and microwaved it for 1 minute - a mini cobbler! Tried it down at my mom's after breakfast and it was delicious!
