DIY Brownie Mix

Planning to try this:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda

mix above in plastic bag & store away.. when ready to make add
2 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla
bake 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes

pan size not given but I imagine 8x8 greased pan. Costs about 30 cents. None of those ingredients with long unpronounceable names.

Thanks for sharing this recipe. I love DIY mixes!
I do the same with my cookies ... do a bunch of jars ahead, for easy mixing when the time comes.

Please let us know how this one turns out when you make it!

Great idea to have these ready to mix and bake.

Thanks for sharing! It does sound like a LOT of sugar though.......

It does ... however ...
I just checked both of my recipes and they both have twice as much sugar as flour.
So, this it seems, that this one is totally normal.

As a rule, I cut sugar down to 3/4 what recipe says.

There is a book: Make a Mix. Lots of great do ahead recipes. I love the Tang one.

Throw in a handful of chocolate chips, chopped up candied cherries or nuts and ta da! a yummy treat with pop! Thanks for the post.

What recipe uses Tang? I have a canister here.

Tang...can you still buy it? Oh please, may I have the recipe? I still have the Tang pitcher with screw on lid. Maybe it's called a carafe? Battle Axe,would you pm the recipe? I would hug your neck!

Here's the original Spiced Tea recipe from Tang.
There are a lot of variations but I like the original.

Where can I find Tang? I haven't seen it on the grocery store shelves in a long time.

Amazon has Tang. Free shipping with Prime.[h=1]Tang Orange Powdered Drink Mix (72oz Jar) $6.61[/h]

Me too! didn't know that Tang existed anymore.
I remember it as a kid as being something of a treat in our home.
Weird "treat" now that I think of it!
So yes, BattleAxe, would you please share the recipe for whatever it is??

As for the Brownies ... I could not wait and made them last night!
Mix fits nicely into a 500 ml jar.
Could even top off with some add-ins (nuts? chocolate chips? or?) if you wanted.
Definitely use an 8"x8" pan. 9"x9" would work but they would be pretty slim.
I'd sooner have some bulk/thickness to them!! :)

I followed the recipe as is, except for melted butter in place of the vegetable oil.

As for taste and deliciousness .... oh myyyyyy!!!
Yup, this one will work into the repertoire with jars of them ready to whip up in no time!

I just bought Tang from my local grocery store earlier this winter to make Russian Tea (another name for spiced tea). It is definitely available.

If I want a quick icing. I just pour some chips ( chocolate, white, peanut butter etc.) on top when I take brownies out of oven. Go back about 5-6 min. later and they are melted and I take the back of a spoon and spread it around evenly. Be sure to do this as soon as you take the brownies out of oven.

ditto ... I did exactly that when I made this recipe!
It doesn't take very many to do the job.

I just put a thin layer on. Peanut Butter chips or Butterscotch chips on them are my favorites.

The make ahead in a jar would make great Christmas gifts with the rest of the recipe on a card. I've gotten cookies this way; nice gift idea.

I've got the recipe for Russian Tea, will look for it tomorrow and post.

Hi MaryMo - don't know where you are located in Missouri - but I am in Missouri and found my Tang at a Gerbes grocery store - it is a Kroger store. Look by the canisters of Kool-Aid at your local store
