I love going to county fairs.
The big one in RI---Washington County Fair, we would go to EVERY year. Well, we always got free tickets too because Dad worked with one of the guys who ran it. lol
It was sooo much fun to watch the tractor pulls, see the animals, see all the wares and fares there. Oh, and the food...to die for!!! Can't beat it!

I agree 100% with everything yous said except the tractor pulls...I could probably live a lifetime again without seeing another one. :lol:

if any of you smoke meats or poultry, try making veggie soups using them. i do that and it's delicious. also, use the smoked turkey instead of the fattier ham when you make pea soup. you get a rich flavor at almost no extra calories. they freeze wonderfully. they separate, so mix them up a little and add back a little water.

every year when turkey is on sale, i buy loads of the biggest ones i can find. they have the most meat to bone proportion. i freeze them until smoking time and refreeze or make soup instantly. with the soup, i refreeze or serve.

We have a family friend who pulls, so we were always where rooting for him. He also had horses in the horse pulls too. He had the first horse I ever rode. Was a pregnant mare when I was about 6 years old. lol

Thanks Butterflywing for the website and for the heads up on smoked turkey and chicken. I make split pea soup and usually use ham so when we get our Christmas turkey smoked I'll save some for soup.

I always make turkey soup after Christmas using the left overs from our smoked Christmas turkey and it is really good.

Terri: As a 6 year old kid I'm sure you LOVED the pull competions at the fair. I did too.

I was about 6 when I got to ride my first horse. :)

Would you believe that this child of mine asked me if I could make some pickles? Told her sure! Go find the cukes I need! lol

I guess because you live in Guam and that is tropical, I just figured you'd have an abundance of fresh produce. Do you want me to send you some cucumber seeds and a recipe? This year my mom's garden is producing massive amounts of cucumbers. Our weather has been so hot and it got that way very early so the garden's are doing better than gardens have ever done around here. It's wonderful to have such nice stuff to put in jars. I wish I could share it with you.
