Ok, I see now. I only have the inverted ones and one is a square and one is round. The square one will drop the butter out back into the water when I lift it, the round one does not. My little grandson also knows that grandma does not allow crumbs or anything else in the butter itself.

I bought a Butter Bell, and I love it. First time I have ever owned or even used one. Well, unless you count my Mom's butter dish on the kitchen table.

They work great. Have used one for years. You must press the butter down in (the top half) of it because you store it upside down. Put 1/3 cup of water in the bottom half and the butter in the top half. I live in AZ and the butter keeps just fine.

Jan, I was thinking of buying one for a gift and couldn't decide on a color. I like your idea of butter yellow. I also like that one because it's lead and cadium free. Thank you. Red for me, I think. I dislike hard butter so this sounds great. Thanks to the original poster, tranum, too. I had no idea something like this was available except as an antique.
