I recently had dinner at an Amish home in Shipshewana, IN. Among the items served was a cold broccoli and cauliflower salad with a delicious white creamy dressing... it was wonderful! I have a few Amish cookbooks but have failed to find this recipe. Does anyone recognize this recipe? Thank you.

Thank you, I appreciate your help!! |
Try contacting the place that you ate it. Many times, especially not for locals, they will share the recipe. :)

do you visit very often? We purchased a home in Shipshewana about eight years ago. Unfortunately I don't get there as often as we used to, but we hope that our retirement is just around the corner and we intend to make Shipshewana our permanent home. We love it as well...it is always hard for us to leave! I was sorry to have missed you there recently Craftybear! |
Is Shipshewana a good place to visit? My husband and I are heading to most likely Niagara Falls area next week. I am looking for places to visit. We will be traveling in our RV. We just want to go and relax.
Any suggestions will be useful. |
When you acquire the recipe please post it. I love salads.

Sounds like a Weight Watchers recipe

I just visited a friend in Tennessee and she served this salad and gave me the recipe. Similar to others. It did have onions but cut so small you would not know they were there. She used a vitamix to chop everything and it was made in a jiffy. She did not add bacon or nuts and it was delicious. Probably equally so with those additions. Figure I can do without the bacon since it was still good.
Dressing ½ cup Splenda or sugar 1 cup mayonnaise 1 Tablespoon white vinegar, or more. I use only 1 Mix and keep in refrigerator at least 3 hours Do not mix dressing into salad until ready to serve to avoid limp veggies. 1 small head cauliflower 2 bunches broccoli 1 small onion *6 pieces bacon, fried and crumbled ½ cup raisins or craisins *½ cup chopped pecans 1 lg. can of mandarin oranges, drained Mix and keep in refrigerator until ready to serve |
