Earthquake Cake (so called because the top usually cracks)

1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 bar butter or margarine
8 oz cream cheese
1 box powdered sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup coconut

Line bottom of 9 x 13 cake pan with pecans and coconut. Mix the cake mix following box directions.
Pour over the pecan-coconut layer. In a saucepan melt together the margarine, cream cheese. Add to this the powdered sugar. Pour over cake mix layer. Bake 45 minutes at 350°.

Just one question, when you say a "Bar" of butter how much does that way, we get in in 8 oz packets. Thanks in advance Elle in Spain

A stick of butter in the U.S. is usually 8 tablespoons.

I'm seriously looking at this for Mother's Day this weekend.

Whoa, wait a minute! I'm a little confused about putting this together.

You pour the raw batter over the pecan/coconut mixture, but then you pour the melted and mixed butter/cream cheese/powder sugar over the raw cake batter and bake?

I'm like wondering what becomes of the icing mixture if you bake it. I thought maybe you spread that on after the cake baked.
