Even if you don't like sauerkraut, you'll like this!
I do make my sauerkraut the German way....rinse it several times and cook it with applesauce. So... You need some ribs, or a pork roast, sauerkraut and an onion. Throw it all in a crockpot and cook all day on low. If I don't have applesauce I'll rinse my kraut and add a little brown sugar in the crockpot. The meat is so tender, and I've yet to feed this to someone who didn't love it! |
Sounds delicious. Do you just add the applesauce to the crockpot? I've never "cooked" sauerkraut except to add it to a recipe.

My German Mom taught me to make sauerkraut by adding some sauteed onion and grated potato, along with carraway seeds. Makes for a thick kraut. MMM, mMMM good.
|
Thanks!

I also have a German heritage. Drain sauerkraut add 2 sliced apples and 2 cups of apple cider or apple juice and a little caraway seed. Throw in some pork chops, or polish sausage and let cook all day in the crock pot. Yummy.
|
my step mom was german also for a quick method she used jar kraut and sliced up a fresh cabbage so it was at least half and half cause the kraut in jar was to sour. you can add more to suit your taste.
|
sounds very yummy.. thinking i will be trying it this weekend..
|
Maybe you should share your recipe for making saurkraut with us. My SIl and DD like to make kraut as they don't like the sourness of bought kraut. I think I'll try your recipe with Bavarian style kraut in a day or two.

We retired in Casa Grande. It was too hot there for us in the summer, so we transferred ourselves here, 3 years ago. We were located off fwy. 10.
