Start with what their favourites were that you have made for them over the years!

Also, take a look at all the Recipes in a Jar ... lots of options there. It lets you prepare the ingredients, (like a box mix) and then they make it when they wish, with minimal add ins.

From this link http://www.christmas-cookies.com/rec...iftsinjar.html

I made the Cranberry biscotti and oatmeal raisin cookies last year!

From the other site I did the Spiced tea and hot chocolate last year.

I also did a bean soup, and the cobbler mix from another site!
and I did RUBS for the men folk using recipes I found in a magazine!

This sounds like a good idea, maybe a pot holder or two. There is also a recipe on here for single serving pie in a jar and a "recipe" for making hand lotion.

I do the apple pie in a jar..it is sooooo good!
This year I am not doing the apple, since there was NO local fruit, but going with the cobbler mix instead.

Wonderful ideas

I haven't tried any of the jars, might need to :-)

I always make a macaroon recipe from an old neighbor.

Teresa's Walnut Joys

2 large eggs, beaten
1/8 t salt
3/4 c sugar (I use Splenda)
1/2 c flour
1 t vanilla
1 T melted butter
2 c coconut
1 c choc chips (I use dark)
1 c chopped walnuts

Mix well. I use a small ice cream/cookie scoop for these. Bake on greased cookie sheet (I use parchment paper)for approx 12 minutes at 325. Cool completely, store airtight for up to a week. Not that they last that long :-)

I double the recipe, kind of. Basically dump the bags of coconut, choc chips and walnuts in. Neighbors/friends love them. Me too. And made with Splenda they aren't toooo bad!

ssgramma 10-04-2011 05:29 AM

ooops

CarrieAnne 10-04-2011 05:42 AM

Thanks for all the links and the recipes. I cant wait to try them!
"Puppy Chow" has been a favorite in our family since my oldest brought some home in Kindergarden, and gave it to her little brothers. Of course they wanted more, Puppy chow, lol, so we had to get the recipe!

RuthEm 10-04-2011 09:15 AM

Will have to try the Walnut Joys recipe. We use Splenda in all baking and highly recommend it. Thanks for sharing!!

Are you a candy maker? Fudge, peanut brittle?

This reminds me of years ago when DD was in high school. She wanted to 'borrow' monies to get presents for 20  of her friends. Even if it was just $5 per person that is $100 :? I suggested that she make candies. She and GF purchased sugar, chocolate chips and some of the other 'main' ingredients. I supervised, they did the work and made 20 cute and sweet presents. Later I found out that most of the 'friends' were guys . . . they loved the sweet present. The next Christmas I had 4 girls in my kitchen making sweet presents for their friends. ;-)

This is a recipe for MICROWAVE PEANUT BRITTLE
In a glass pan with handle, combine:
1 cup granulated sugar (that's plain white sugar)
1 cup raw peanuts
1/2 cup white syrup
dash salt
Stir with table knife.
Cook on high for 4 minutes in microwave.
Stir with a kinfe and add: 1 TBsp margarine and
one tsp. vanilla.
Cook on high another 4 minutes. Again, stir with knife.
Cook another 2 minutes. and stir with knife.
Add 1 tsp. baking soda ..quickly stir and pour immediately
onto a greased cookie sheet and let cool.
After mixture has cooled completely and is hard, break
into pieces.
Store in airtight container. Makes about one pound.

You must pour very quickly as it will start hardening in
the pan in a matter of a few seconds. I have never had it
fail. Make sure your peanuts are raw..Here, I can only find
them in the produce department of the grocery store, and only during the holidays. It is so quick and easy to make.
The knife is a table knife. Everybody we know loves it!

What is "white syrup" and where does one get "raw peanuts"?
