Favorite eating apples
I try to include an apple in my diet every day and most of the time it’s Honey Crisp. Today our store had one I’ve never heard of - Autumn Glory - that’s supposed to have a hint of cinnamon and caramel ! Be still my heart !
I can say I think it’s very good. Didn’t really notice cinnamon but I did detect caramel. Firm and crisp. |
red delicious for almost everything

I have Galas right now and they are very crisp and juicy. Of course I get mine directly from the Apple farm which are better then store apples.
|
Red delicious are my favorite, but I do enjoy a granny smith once in awhile.

I love apples and eat all sorts, being here in Washington state we have a lot of options. I've tried the new Cosmic Crisp, I really like it but will have to wait until more trees come into production/prices go down. I think it will be a great addition to juices eventually.
I do like the Honey Crisp, they are best fresh and don't store over the year well in my opinion. Opal is my usual choice for an eating apple right now if they are in stock. Yellow and rather pointy, sweet lightened with just a bit of tartness. Crisp and juicy and they don't turn brown fast, since I'm only allowed half an apple a day I notice that. |
My favorite eating apple is Macintosh. That being said, I keep granny smiths because I like to preslice them to take with me for a snack on the go and they are very slow to turn brown.

Ambrosia is one of my favorites. There is another but I can't remember the name right now and it wasn't in the store last time I shopped.

I too eat an apple a day. My favorite is Golden Delicious. But I have not been able to find them for several weeks now, so tried the Opal and found it to be very good.
|
I remembered the other apple that I love it is called "sweetango". It is wonderful but not on the market for very long.

Macintosh is my very favorite but often can't find in TN. So then my go to apple is Red Delicious and Honey Crisp....sometimes just whatever is on sale.
|
My favorite is the Pink Lady - I also like the green apples they use in Caramel apples, usually they are Granny Smith apples but some are Pippins - both are good.
|
I love, Love,Jonathan apples and JonaGolds, but they have a really short season.
Also like Granny Smith and Honey Crisp both for eating and for pies. I'm looking forward to trying the new Cosmic Crisp. |
My very favorite apple is Wolf River. They are a winter apple, get really huge, keep for a really long time and can be used for anything after they have been on the tree long enough to go through a hard frost. The frost turns them sweet. They can be used for baking before that. The trees bear heavily only every other year. Most people don't know what to do with such a huge apple. Two will make a good sized pie.
After that, golden delicious is the most flavorful, sweet and juicy. They can be used for baking, too. |
I like Honey Crisp and have tried the Cosmic Crisp which was good but expensive. There is another new apple on the market called Envy that I found while looking for Cosmic Crisp that I like, has a sweeter taste not tart.
|
Cosmic Crisp. Honey Crisp and Fuji apples. Oh and Granny Smith.
|
Perhaps whatever you are most partial to is what you may have been introduced to as a child? Living in the northeast, MacIntosh is my absolute favorite. Also like Cortland, Northern Spy (for cooking and baking), Empire and the Paula and Jona Reds.
|
I enjoy an apple in the evening to curb my sweet-tooth. Honey crisps are so enormous that I only eat half. The other half doesn't turn brown the next day. Down here in south Texas, I paid $2.50 for one apple yesterday!! ouch
|
I love honey crisp. I’ve foundgood luck in keeping it firm and crisp!
|
My absolute favorite apple for eating is Envy. A few years ago I would have said Cameo, but I can no longer find them in stores.
|
I love Pixie Crunch!

My first favorite is the Macintosh from my youth - bit today’s Macintosh is a close second. Followed by HoneyCrisp. We have an apple orchard nearby and we can go pick and eat many different varieties. I use the mix to make applesauce. I used to love Red Delicious from my youth but the ones I can get now are usually meally.

i prefer pink lady for eating

My DH and I love a really old, ugly apple - Grimes Golden - but they are getting really hard to find. Stores won't carry them because they look terrible - green apple with spots on it - so nobody plants them anymore and the old ones are dying. Found a source on the internet last fall but the lady on the phone said that they did not have any apples last year as they had a very bad hail storm that spring that took off all of their blooms - so I will try them again this fall.
|
I tried the new cosmic crisp and found them to be very good, but expensive. My favorite apple otherwise is the honeycrisp, followed by Pink Lady. Apples are all about texture to me, i cannot stomach a mealy apple. Anything that has lost its crispness gets stewed to put on biscuits or turned into pie or apple butter.

I like Gala, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious and Opal apples.
