Favourite Chocolate Cake?
I want to make a great cake for my husband's birthday on Wednesday.

My all-time favorite chocolate cake was the original Pillsbury Tunnel of Fudge cake, especially if it's allowed to mellow overnight. However Pillsbury stopped making the key ingredient, as I recall it was some kind of frosting that is mixed in. There is a revised recipe but I've never made it so won't recommend it. But I'm sure you'll be getting lots of good suggestions from your quilting friends here.

My husband's favorite combination of Chocolate cake. Easy Peasy. I make a devil's food cake, adding in chocolate chips, out of a box in a bundt pan. Drizzle, hot raspberry jam with seeds all around. The jam without seeds just doesn't have the same flavor. Then I melt chocolate frosting and drizzle it over the jam. Especially let it puddle in the center. I have totally made everything from scratch (except the jam). It doesn't matter. There's so much chocolate, it tastes the same.

My go to Choc. Cake recipe is from my Robinhood mini cookbook. I do it in my 9X13 glass pan but I don’t do fancy . You could fancy it into a layer cake if wanted.
Easy Chocolate Cake 1-3/4 cups all purpose flour 2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup cocoa 1-1/2 tsp. Baking soda 1-1/2 tsp. Baking powder 1 tsp. Salt 2 eggs 1 cup milk 1/2 cup oil 2 tsp vanilla 3/4 cup boiling water Conbine dry ingredients in large mixer bowl Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla Beat 2 minutes at med. speed Stir in boiling water ( batter will be thin) Pour into greased 9X13 cake pan Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean Cool in pan or on wire rack. When I first poured this thin batter in a pan, I thought it couldn’t possibly work but it made the best choc cake. Even better the next day. I do add a couple of tsp. of vinegar to my cup milk and let it sour before adding to batter. I always add the vinegar to any milk in a cake recipe to give that extra little jolt to the baking powder/ baking soda for extra lift while baking. |
any kind! If my has the fudge frosting my mom used to make. This is thick fudge frosting
1 C white sugar 1 block unsweetened baking chocolate 1/4 C milk 1/4 C butter 1 T corn syrup (white) Bring to boil, boil one minute hand beat till cool, if gets hard add a little cream or milk Mom used to send one of use kids outside in the winter to beat this as it got cooled faster..it is a lot of hand beating! but very nummy, used to put the left overs on soda crackers...we loved those soda crackers too. |
I love German Chocolate Cake. I usually cheat any more and by a boxed mix and the pecan frosting in the can. Makes a yummy cake.

I hope I'm not too late to enter this recipe.
I love this Earthquake Cake recipe. It's not a "pretty" cake but I think it's delicious. EARTHQUAKE CAKE 1 cup coconut 1 German Chocolate Cake mix 1/2 cup butter (softened) 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese (softened) 1 (1 lb) box confectioners' sugar Preheat oven to 350 deg. Spread coconut & pecans over the bottom of a greased 11"x15" pan. Make cake batter according to package directions & pour batter over coconut & pecans. In a medium bowl, combine butter & creame cheese with confectioners' sugar. Drop by spoonfuls on top of the cake. Do not stir. Bake 45 minutes. Allow to cool. This cake can be iced with German Chocolate Cake Frosting or a yummy homemade chocolate frosting. |
Not a fan of cake mixes. Our favorite chocolate cake is zucchini chocolate cake. Stats nice and moist a long time.

I was hoping for the good ole chocolate sheet cake recipe. Anyone?

Chocolate Kahlua Cake
Ingredients: 1 package chocolate cake mix, plain, not the kind with pudding or chocolate pack inside. Ignore the instructions on the box. 2 cups of regular sour cream - not low fat 4 eggs 3/4 cup of canola oil 1/3 cup of Kahlua - you can substitute any coffee liquor or 1/3 cup strong coffee 1 - 6 ounce package of chocolate chips Combine everything except the chocolate chips, mix well until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips. Pour into a well greased bundt pan or tube pan, I usually dust mine with cocoa powder. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Cake should be nice and moist. I dust mine with powdered sugar, or I drizzle melted chocolate over it. This can also be made in regular round cake pans and frosted. |
Any cake recipe can be a sheet cake. Just put it in a sheet pan. That's what I do. LOL

I love Triple Chocolate cake and it is relatively easy.
1--4 serving package of cooked chocolate pudding mix not instant, made according to directions on the package. While still hot, add 1 box chocolate cake mix. Mix thoroughly and pour in the pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips if desired. We usually don't bother. Bake according to the cake mix box. **If you can only find the 6 serving cooked pudding mix, make according to directions and take out 1 cup. |
My fave is the recipe on the back of German's Chocolate wrapper for German Chocolate Cake. Not the mixes, not the re-dos, just the original recipe.

My cousin enters the Hershey chocolate cake recipe every year at the fair and wins every year for her cake. Everyone asks her for the recipe and she says it's not a secret but I'm not telling. I gave her the old Hershey's metal can my grandmother had with the recipe on the back. It's in a place of honor in her kitchen.
