If you buy the Lorann flavoring there will be a recipe on the back of the packet. The proportions are different but the end result will be the same.

thank you those are the ones... I am off to the store!!!!! I knew someone on here was smarter than I was and could find it for me. thanks again!

There is a very simple way to make this candy using the Lorann flavorings. You do it in the microwave and it turns out perfect! No thermometer is needed. The recipe comes with the flavors.I just made a ton of it in different flavors. It is super easy and fast.

thank you. I am going to the store soon so I will check them out.

well after searching every store in town....... I finally went to Krogers and they sent me to the pharmacy.. yep the pharmacy to get the cinnamon oil!!!! I came home and made two batches!!! it was sooo quick and fast... thanks

frugalfabrics 12-20-2010 07:12 PM

My sister and I were talking about that this morning...we never could figure out why the pharmacy sold the oil.

I've got her curiousity up now too...she and I use to make it all the time when we were kids (30-some years ago).

HOT Cinnamon (sp?)...loved it!

fidgety 12-20-2010 07:57 PM

yep it is really easy using the microwave method and is soooo good!!

well i'll probably date myself here but when we made this at home mom would go to the pharmacy and they would fill little vials for her in the various flavors. I think they might have actually re-filled the ones she had. we would make 8 or 10 different flavors.

Maybe this is your recipe; hope so! m y sister made it every year.
HARD CANDY
2 c. sugar.
1 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/2 t. fool coloring
1and 1/2 t. flavoring--your choice
Combine sugar, syrup and water in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, without stirring, to 300 degrees F., or until a small amount sperated into brittle threads when tested in very cold water.
Cool slightly. blend in coloring and flavoring. Pour into 8" square pan. While still hot, make creases with the sharp point of a kine to mark it into squares. Repeat every few minutes. Let cool. Turn onto table; tap sharply to sloosen. Break carefully along creases. Makes 1and 1/4#.
I ate this several times, and is delicious. Hope it is what you want!
Mariah.

you can use extract in hard candy instead of the oil but you have to use a lot more. i've done it in a pinch. cost-wise you're better off using the flavoring oils when you can find them

Ok this is the recipe I found on the back of the Lorannoils package. I used it and it worked great!!!

Microwave hard candy

1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
Powdered sugar ( Optional )
Lorann Gourmet LIquid food coloring
( I used normal food coloring)
1/2 teaspoon oil flavoring

mix sugar and corn syrup in a 4 cup microwavable glass measure. Cover with plastic wrap. Microwave on HIGH for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Remove from microwave carefully and stir. Cover with a new sheet of plastic wrap. Microwave again on HIGH for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Remove from microwave and remove plastic wrap. Careful of the steam!!!! stir in coloring and oil . Pour syrup quickly into lightley oiled cookie sheet or oiled candy molds. (score at once) Let candy cool until hardened. Break up the candy with a mallet or knife end. Dust with powdered sugar to keep from sticking together. Store in a airtight container.
