Food diary question
 
I have different things I need to track in my intake of meals. I am using the free version of my fitness pal right now but it is so crippled it makes it very hard to use. I had thought of paying for it but it is expensive on my retirement income and I don't know if it will have the problems I am having in the full version. Does anyone know of another program that will track similar to my fitness pal? I have to do this on my laptop, no cell service so no cell phone. Thank you in advance!

I had to keep extensive food diaries when first tracking my food sensitivities. I found that cheap notebooks from Office Depot were the easiest way. All of the online apps and programs were too limiting as far as making notes and additional information.

Since you are using a laptop, you could use Word or Excel to record what you want to. Excel would allow you to set up columns for different information.

ummm...maybe something like I use to track my bills and extra spending. I just have a spiral notebook, the big ones. I use a ruler to make vertical lines. So on one page on the left, I mark down the bills like water, electric, ect. You could mark down carbs, protein, veggies, fruit, water or whatever. You could go every other line or whatever works for you. then I figure out how many vertical columns I want. I usually put three months on each page but for you might want to make seven for each day of the week. Oh on the left side where you put carbs, protein, ect maybe you want to put down Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack on a line under each heading. If you use excel you can do it on your computer. I actually like my simple paper notebook because it is easy to carry around and make the entry's and I can take it with me to the dietician when I saw her when I was doing this to track my intake

Yup, that's what I used. A simple spiral notebook. You can set it up any way you want and leave and spot at the bottom for notes.

I do a simple paper listing. I start each entry with date/weight and then list meals. Very easy to keep track of and use.

no cell service so no cell phone.

If you have internet then a cell should work with wi fi. I use home wi fi instead of cellular for my phone and my Apple watch.

I didn't explain that very well. In Fitness pal you enter the food and it shows all the nutrients and adds them to your daily intake. I can use a notebook and do have a printout that I can enter things but it gets cumbersome to find each nutrient of each ingredient and put it together in recipes. And yes I am being lazy. I have master cook and can and do use that but it is still a many step process to get it entered and tracked. I have the cheap cell phone and it might be able to go through my internet but I haven't done that since the internet I have has it down times. I am a bit remote.

I have tried both MyFitnessPal and Chronometer. Chronometer will track Macro nutrients and a lot more. The only downside is the free version does not let you import a recipe from the web - you must type them in line by line. Other than that I like it better as it gives me a better overall picture.

or if using an Apple product, the Numbers app works a lot like Ecvel.
