Ever seen those fruit bouquets in advertisements? Well the smallest dinkiest one is around $40.
Here's how you can make your own. 1 pkg of bamboo skewers assorted cookie cutters a melon ball scoop assorted fresh fruits such as melons, grapes, strawberries, pineapple, cherries, etc. 1 head of lettuce 1 decorative bowl or basket around the same size as the lettuce Place the lettuce in the bowl with the core down. slice fruit about 1/2-3/4 inch thick use your cookie cutters to make various shapes cut some of the rind of the melon into 1/2" squares Put the rind section on the skewer. It will be the "stopper" that keeps the fruit from slipping all the way down. Add pieces of fruit up to the pointed end and stick the blunt end of the skewer into the head of lettuce. Repeat until it's as big and full as you want. Cheese, meats like summer sausage or pepperoni, and vegetables can be substituted for fruit. DD and I have also dipped strawberries in chocolate and used them in our bouquets. Let your imagination run wild. DD and I made one that weighed around 20 lbs for last year's July 4th celebration. The biggest challenge was wrapping it in saran wrap and getting it across town to the cookout. This is a fun thing to do with kids. I loved the idea of these but didn't know what held the skewers up. Once I found out the rest was easy. |
Great idea for this summers entertaining.Sounds like fun everyone in the family could do. Thanks
