I substitute Vanilla and Chocolate Soy Milk in a lot of recipes. I am not a fan of the non flavored though LOL :D:D:D

Vanilla works great in cereal, oatmeal, french toast and pancake/waffle batter.
My Grands love the chocolate heated up.
They both work well in puddings too :D:D:D

My go to place for these recipes is glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com I do not eat corn or soy either. I find almond milk great for baking or on hot cereal, rice milk plain or vanilla good for cold cereal and general use. Hemp milk is good when you want a cooked product to thicken up more. When you go to this site she chats a lot but you can just look at the categories she has, desserts, soups, etc. Also a good article for how to go gf if you are new at this. I find Betty Crocker and Bisquick etc with gf but not dairy free but haven't looked at them for a while.
Also Amazon sells a lot of gf foods tho you have to buy a case, maybe could find someone to split that eats this way? I hear Trader Joes has good prices on gf foods, we only have Whole Foods who prices put a big dent in the budget.
Hope this is some help, feel free to pm me with any questions.
Lynne from eastern KS

This is great info for those of us, or our families who need resourses! I can't digest soy in any form, and almost every processed product on the grocery shelves have some type of soy, or soybean oil. I have to read every ingredient label on everything! All the years, and the bills for Dr.s to discover my stomach issues were food related. Trader Joes is my go-to place as they carry an artisan bread with no soybean oil (only bread I've found!).

I ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. NO GRAIN,OATMEAL,SOY MILK OR ANY DAIRY. THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS YOU CAN NOT EAT. USE ONLY ALMOND MILK..NO OTHERS. NO BREAD, NO BEEF...IT GOES ON AND ON. GET A BOOK ON WHAT YOU CAN AND CAN NOT EAT.

My DH has to eat gluten-free due to having celiac disease. Gluten-free mall has really good prices and lots of good products. Betty Crocker has good products and tasty. I've been doing this type of cooking for 6 years and you learn what tastes good and what does not!!! Barnes & Noble bookstores have some very good gluten-free cookbooks and some for kids, too!!!

Our daughter, grandson, and granddaughter are all gf/df. Google it as well as check Living Without.com for recipes. There is so much more out there today than there was when we first started. A lot is trial and error with your favorite grandma recipes, but they seem to love whatever comes out of the oven, even when it looks like a "Bust" to me. I taught my grandson his grandpa's favorite saying when he really isn't fond of something, "Let's have this again next year." He loves that, and being the hardest to please, he has tried using it with me and now feels comfortable saying it.

love4westies 02-17-2011 08:06 AM

That is so sweet! So much better than the usual ugly compalints after ou gave it a good shot and tried something new....I am going to try that saying with my HUSBAND a well as grandsons!

How about Ezekiel bread in the freezer dept...does it have soy? I have read much about soy and that it really is not good for you for a number of reasons and one of them is the genetics have been chemically changed...

love4westies 02-17-2011 08:11 AM

gluten free goddess is a wonderful resource...thanks

Ezekiel bread does have sprouted soybeans in the ingredients list. Breads at the grocery store including bagels, buns, rolls - almost every bread, every cracker, and cookie made has some type of soybean oil, or soy product in the ingredients. This is not only problematic for me, but friends who have had cancer have been advised by their doctors not to eat soy because of the plant estrogens they contain. I wonder how this affects our young ones?

I was not aware that Ezekiel Bread was GMO...Horrifing at best!!!!!
There is also an aweful lot of Canola oil in everything, from vegan mayonaise to Hummus it is in everything! I won't eat that stuff.

Yes you are absolutly right I am a cancer survivor. I don't use soy either. Thanks so much commenting on the dangers of soy.
Soy is estrogen driven at least that is what my dr said.

Quinoa is wonderful here is my favorite way to eat it.

2 cups Quinoia
a hand full of carrots (chopped)
Onion or leeks about 1 1/2 cups shopped
tsp. garlic chopped (more if you like it)
organic olive oil
Saute all together in large stainless steel fry pan
freshly ground pepper

When veggies are tender aldente' then add rinced Quinoa to pan and add 4 sups of water. Stirr often and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to medium and don't cover.
Set timer for 15 minutes when quinoa is fully cooked it will look like atiny worm is coming out of the center. Sounds so gross but that is how it was worded to see how it looks when cooked.
This is very healthy and loaded with protein.
We love it!! I hope you do too!!!

Coconut Bliss

http://coconutbliss.com/coconut-bliss-products

this is divine!!!!

love4westies 02-19-2011 12:23 PM

Quinoa is wonderful..I like it for breakfast with cinnamon, honey and butter! Raisins and nuts don't hurt either.....

love4westies 02-19-2011 12:28 PM

Oh, thank you for this Coconut Bliss suggestion....I was not aware of it and cannot wait to try it. I do fry in coconut oil and ghee and I feed coconut oil to my dog for her coat and digestion. It has such wonderful properties and now there is a dairy free dessert to try....thank you...

materialworld 02-19-2011 12:55 PM

Thanks! The quinoia recipes sound yummy, and I have a box already in the pantry. Coconut Bliss looks like a winner too. As a matter of fact, I just purchased vanilla coconut milk and chocolate coconut milk yogurt in the dairy section of a local store. So many new choices - I can't wait to try these.

lynnefaye 02-19-2011 05:19 PM

You might want to double check the Ezekiel bread...there is a Whole Foods near me, I can't speak for other locations but the manager here (eastern KS ) said they do not stock any foods with GMO grains, high fructose corn syrup or msg...there may be other criteria but those were the 3 I was asking about. The bread may contain soybean sprouts but there are still some grain growers that raise their grain the usual way, thank you, Lord, for that. I can eat soy but choose not to because of the estrogen connection, am a cancer survivor also, 2 years tomorrow!!

love4westies 02-19-2011 08:22 PM

Congratulations, Lynnfaye!!!

Also Almond Breeze UN sweetend Vanilla flavored milk is awesome!!! I use it for smoothies, oatmeal, and French toast cream of rice. I don't buy any others because they have sugar.

materialworld 02-20-2011 08:27 AM

True, not all soy is GMO. I just cannot eat soy of any kind. Sometimes its hard to know which products contain GMO grains if it is not labeled as such. It's good to know that Whole Foods is a conscientious market. I'm impressed that so many of you care about your health, and are making great food choices. One other note, I've read that soy that is fermented (tempeh, miso, soy sauce), does not contain plant estrogens as the process of fermenting destroys them. Doesn't help me though.

My three favorite websites for recipes:

http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/
http://www.affairsofliving.com/
http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/

Between those three websites, I rarely wish I could eat dairy.
