Green Bean Bundles
These are an all time favorite at my house!!
2-3 cans whole green beans, drained Hickory smoked bacon slices cut in half 1 stick margarine, melted 1/2 c. brown sugar garlic powder toothpicks Gather 8-10 green beans together in a bundle and wrap 1/2 slice bacon around it. secure with toothpick. Continue making bundles until all beans are wrapped. Place bundles in a 9x13 baking dish. Mix together margarine, brown sugar and garlic powder. pour mixture over the bundles and bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes., spooning liquid over beans several times while baking. These are great to take to parties, fellowships or family get togethers!! |
Could these be cooked in pkgs as on coals? could be made ahead and taken to beach.

These are great even cold. So, I see no reason why they couldn't be made ahead of time. Everybody I know keeps going back after these hours later. I'm sure they could be grilled. But, you would have to keep hitting them with the sauce. The garlic and brown sugar is a good portion of the taste. Love'em.

Boy, those sound great! A friend of mine had them at a dinner at her sister-in-law's and raved about them. I can't wait to make them! Thanks for the recipe!

That sounds good! Being in Europe, how much is a stick margarine?
|
Have you ever tried it with fresh green beans, or would they need to be parboiled first?

My husband makes these and they are a BIG hit!! Now he just makes the greens beans loose in a casserole dish without the bacon wrap part. He lays 2 or 3 slices of bacon over the top. Still really good!

My DH does this on the bbq grill. It's a charcoal grill. He uses fresh green beans. I semi cook the bacon on one side then help him wrap the green beans bundles. We lay a sheet of the hvy duty aluminum foil on the grill then place the bundles on it. I rarely use canned anything anymore. To easy to fix the fresh. Fresh disappears faster at our house than canned. Would be easy to cook ahead of time and finish them at the campground.

tessagin, thanks for the info about the bbq, this sounds so yummy with fresh beans.

I am sure they could be cooked, But, you would have to keep reaching them with the marinade, The beans and brownish glucose is a large amount of the flavor, Love'em....

I have a similar recipe, but you marinade the bundles overnight . Bake 350 for 30 minutes. I wonder how it would be with really good basalmic vinegar.....hmmmm...going to the kitchen now....
1 cup brown sugar 1 cup melted butter 3/4 Tablespoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon soy sauce |
Made these last night with fresh beans & baked for an hour, very yummy!
|
We also wrap the green beans up with bacon then just pour French dressing all over them and bake them for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Sounds yucky, but it is delicious!
